Okay initial testing in POD. The game is eating roughly 5gb vram at 8k with 8xmsaa enabled. An impressive feat given it was meant to run on gpus with only a few megabytes of memory.

Personally I would play them all in order but the first game can be skipped if only because it requires dosbox to run and I loathe dosbox. However if I absolutely had to pick the most retard proof starting point it would be NFSIII with the modern patch. Only reason to play the PS1 versions is if you can't get the PC version running with the exception of porsche as the PS1 and PC versions are wildly different.
