What are some /vr/ certified fighting games with good singleplayer content?

The only fighting games I've played are;

Dead or Alive 2
Soul Calibur 2

I fucking suck at fighting games, but I enjoy the two above. I'd take other recommendations for games in a similar vein.

>> No.7357362

Console fighting games were seen as a joke until 5th gen, and due to the nature of the Arcade, a good singleplayer experience wasn't really viable.

Therefore, that only leaves us with 6th gen. This was also a big decline for the traditional 2D fighters and the rise of shitty arena fighters that, even though they provided a decent single-player experience, the core gameplay was too shitty to really make them enjoyable (ex: the 3D MK games). IMO Soul Calibur 2 is one of the few games that hits the sweetspot of having a good gameplay and a rich single player experience

Soul Calibur 2 actually has a legit single player that's sort of an adventure campaign with a chosen character where you unlock their various weapons. I was more of a Capcom/SNK player so I don't recall single player content that's more than the usual tournament in most traditional fighting games.

I guess the Smash series has "unusual" single player but it's still basically just a string of themed fights with unpleasant settings and some very, very barebones platforming segments in between.

Soul Calibur 3 was great and had the best single player.

You can use this logic for anything. I loved playing sports games against people a lot more than on my own but I played Live 05 or 06 so much that I knew how to make a shot guaranteed every time. I even traded so often that I was able to get a team legitimately through endless trades that got me the best player at every position.

>> No.7357838

>>7357813
>you can use that logic for anything
You don't know what that expression even means...and no you can't lol the thing in question has to have two modes, one being intentionally focused on by devs the other being a barebones shadow with braindead AI

>> No.7357854

>>7357838
What are you a brainlet, I told you exactly how that same logic can be applied to other multiplayer focused games. You are no different from CoD kiddies who completely ignore the campaign and are 24/7 shootan zombies. Same with Perfect Dark, always thought 100%ing it would be impossible but then I learned how the AI works and I could beat the hardest stuff no issue. You can break a lot of games if you play it enough, and at that point you basically mastered it. That's fun, budsamuelsons.

>> No.7357868

>>7357854
You're comparing different genres, fighters don't have campaigns like doom, halo, whatever fps you're playing... they have solo modes that are barebones jokes where you fight brain dead AI that can't handle a simple mix up but reads all your inputs and does impossible counters...

>> No.7357884

>>7357868
>fightanfags tell you to not even bother with sf2 or mk2 arcade mode because the ai is impossible/unfair
okay!

And you do know it's more than just fights right, like Tekken Force and Tekken Bowling? It's not strictly just dressing up normal fights in different clothes.

>focusing on single player in a fighting game
Absolutely disgusting, what fucking worthless faggot you are.
Off the top my head: Flying Dragon is the GOAT. Leveling up, getting equipment, bosses, secret bosses, getting new moves, etc... It's great.
Next would be Power stone 2 and it's great adventure mode, sure it's a tad grindy but getting cards and shit to fuse for new items was fun.
The Console ports of Alpha 3 have World Tour mode, where you beat peeps from everywhere and slowly make a busted ISM.
Tobal games are also pretty good.

The next few are a bit lacking but fun to dick around in: The GGXX games have branching story path, a survival with power ups and M.O.M. The MK games have great solo content too.
Deadlyarts is a bit barebones but it's fun to dick around the character creator and the Tutor mode
Hope this helps.

Monster Maulers is a 100% vs-CPU fighting game where you fight giant boss monsters. 2 player mode is co-op against the computer. There is at least one other game like this, the name escapes me atm. Very obscure game that never caught on and never even gets mentioned on /vr/, but it is pretty cool and has huge, impressive-looking sprites.

Tekken 3, Tekken 5
Soul Calibur 2, Soul Calibur 3

King of Fighters Maximum Impact 2 has a bunch of unlockable characters, 16 costumes for each character to unlock, plenty of challenges in the mission mode and lots of terribly voiced cutscenes in each characters story mode

All the PS2 Mortal Kombat games are goofy and clunky but fun in terms of gameplay but they're filled with single player content and unlockables, MK Deception probably being the highlight with the hilariously shit (but soulful) Konquest mode, massive krypt with unlockable characters/costumes/stages/music/art/behind the scenes videos, little profile videos with the devs talking about each character, etc.

Fighters Megamix has one of the dumbest but greatest unlockable character roster of any fighting game. its the one with the Daytona car, but you can also pick Sonic OC's, an inanimate stuffed bear in a sombrero, and the Sega AM2 palmtree.

Evil Zone is a rough game but with a great single player premise, wherein each character in the game is the star of their own anime show essentially, so each of their Arcade mode plays out like a series of their respective show

Chaos Breaker has a sort of RPG inspired setup where at least in the arcade mode you pick a team of characters as well as extra equippable items

Power Stone games as other anons have also said, especially Power Stone 2.
Metamoqester is another game akin to Warzard/Red Earth and Monster Mauler and that its essentially a single player fighting game bossrush thing.

I don't really care for the single player content shoehorned into fighting games that changes the way its played.

>> No.7361195

After learning of stuff like the japanese Kaiser Knuckle General Challenge I've come to see some single player modes as a pretty valid challenge. Just try to clear various Neo Geo guilty pleasures on the defaults, you're in for a ride with some. World Heroes 2 is a prime example, Neo Dio WILL fucking school you - the only way I've beaten this is on the okayish SNES port. Breakers Revenge is a decent challenge also - I feel I've truly mastered Sho and Tia after a bazillion credits as each, and as this game fucking kicks ass it pays off. Fatal Fury Special is a bit more possible than both but a good challenge.

Pretty much if a boss rapes you, there will be a way to exploit that god tier AI, which is the fun of figuring out such games. They become less tournament fighter and more Punch Out. Timer scams are a valid tactic, as is running the fuck away and footsies when you get some poke damage in.

>> No.7361321

Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution. I think all tekkens have great single player modes. Mortal Kombat has great single player modes. Guilty gear survival mode is cool, you can also try GG Isuka, IIRC it has a beat em up mode on it. Soul Calibur 3 has a really neat single player campaign too.

Somehow 1ccing Mortal Kombat 1 seems more interesting than playing it competitively. You see how this guy has to know the exploits for every character's AI and respond accordingly, and they have real patterns, it's not as retarded as it gets in the later games. The boss fights are hilarious. Whereas muh high level MK1 is like playing bumper cars with electric wheelchairs.
