If I'm going to play FF2, what version should I play? The GBA or the PSP? The NES version was just fucking awful, and this is coming from someone who has played through NES FF1 multiple times on actual hardware with no turbo button or save states.

You know what I mean, you autist.

>>7347683
Yeah, I played FF1 on PSP and the graphics did look a bit...soulless, for lack of a better term. Way higher quality, but lacking style.

I would recommend GBA between the two, PSP has load times, rushed art direction, and totally broken bonus dungeon prizes.

Yes there was, a prototype exists of an English-translated FF2, hence how we have a translation of the original version of FF2. They just never officially released it.

Since you totally knew what you seemingly didn't know and you already had an opinion about what you actually asked, why make the thread to begin with?

WonderSwan Color version has a working English patch, and the previous game too. Like FFI, a lot of the game mechanics are retained from the original in it and Origins, for better or worse, but it gets rid of the bullshit hidden stats like equipment weight affecting magic to make the game a bit more bearable.

PSP is the best version. Looks nice and has all the glitches fixed.

Knowing that the graphics are bad =/= knowing the rest of the game is bad

The game was fan-translated long before the English WIP proto was leaked. You might be thinking of Mother, where translation work barely started when the Earth Bound proto was found and dumped.

On that note, please play the NES proto, it's fully playable despite some minor glitches and is fucking hilarious. It's almost like a parody of FFII.

I would go with the GBA version. This game's grind can be a bit of a chore sometimes so you want the version that is the 'purest' iteration of the game with much of the difficulty removed, so you can enjoy what it does have to offer.

1 and 3 are good unless the challenge of 3 filters you.

If you can put up with the load times (which are admittedly worse than FFI PSP, in my experience) the PSP version does some interesting things with its bonus dungeon, on top of having the GBA's bonus campaign.

I love the high resolution sprites but I wish some of the GBA designs were kept like the Behemoth. I guess they wanted to go with Amano's art

In what regard? The system to get them is retarded tho, ngl

Am i insane or do the sprites of the ffI-II-IV psp ports look good to me? I played all three of them and they did feel modern without losing the charm of the originals. The V-VI mobile ports now that's another story

>>7352793
Oh no, no no no. The PSP sprites look GREAT. They are off-model compared to concept art and stuff, but they are very pretty. I remember when FFV and VI mobile ports a lot of people wondered why Square didn't give them rhe Anniversary Collection treatment

You could just cheese it go Monk, 2x Black Mage and 1x White Mage. But respeccing for the first Mini Dungeon was a fucking experience.

The bigger problem is that the pacing is... janky and weird.
In the original game you got the strongest job non cheese in the game(Black Belt) at the 1/3 point(Water crystal), and you then get the SUPER jobs at Eureka.
Pacing kinda also falls off a clfif once you get to the water crystal, as there is no actual path between the airship areas.
It honestly felt kinda jarring.

I always thought 5 and 6 deserved remakes on the 3DS, similar to what 4 got on the DS
