Well yeah it's no secret and it's super common in the regular music industry too. Doesn't stop them from being better than most non-sampled works. Tarkus is one of those songs where you can see they straight-up took the leitmotif.
Wild Arms 1 soundtrack has entire songs from Ennio Morricone in it put to synth and it's great.
