Still a hell of a lot better than fighting games on game boy or game gear. NGPC is debatable, but the fact that the GBA has perfectly serviceable versions of Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3 and King of Fighters is pretty rad. I learned a lot of characters for those games by playing their portable versions.

for the time yeah, there was not much competition, and no one had NGPC anyway. i just remember how it all paled in comparison to PSP when it came out. it got SFA3 on launch, and then kept getting good and even great FG ports, and of course you could just emulate. this is the reason why i say GBA fighters aged like shit.
anyway, speaking of it…
KoF EX2 was pretty good, one of the best ports on the console i'd say. reduced resolution, but not severe, and plays very close to kof 2000 with some system changes.
playing SF was pretty questionable though, because you played a 6 button game on a 2 button + 2 shoulders controller which sucked (despite that i must have dumped 1000 hours into SFA3 Upper, no joke). SSF2T Revival also had that pale color palette like early GBA games to make up for lack of backlight.
tried Guilty Gear, but the resolution was just unplayable.
didnt bother with MK but it actually looked OK and had 3d backgrounds, that said i forgot it existed.
tekken advance felt funny, didnt even bother

>> No.7345517

My top five would be:
Advance Wars 2
Mega Man Zero 2
Wario Land 4
Rhythm Heaven
Metroid Fusion

Mega Man Zero 1 is pretty rough and has some bullshit moments, I personally recommend starting with 2, you won't be missing any plot. Advance Wars 1 is great, but 2 is even better, you also won't miss any plot, so I recommend starting with 2.

Also, try:
Astro Boy: Omega Factor
FFTA
Metal Slug

After just getting all the stars in mario vs dk, i think they are about on par for different reasons. I was fucking bummed that mario vs dk 2 was a lemmings clone. What a fucking waste. I was hoping they branched out a bit and brought other nintendo characters into the mix like a smash bros twist. How dk 94 had moves that later went onto sm64 and smash bros, they could have had link going through similar puzzle platforms trying to get zelda from ganon, or samus racing to destroy all the metroids, etc. They could inherit a similar move set as there smash counterpart but tailored for puzzle platforming. But, no they went with a lemmings clone. Fucking bullshit faggot nigger nips.

Haven't played 2 but instead I'll say that 1 is too hard. And it has pretty bad bugs where certain major elements are completely useless. They just modernized the combat by giving it the standard MP system so as long as you were stocked up in ethers you were pretty safe.

Gonna advise against Nightmare in Dream Land if Kirby's Adventure is available to you (NES, Virtual Console, Mini Classic Edition). NiDL is one of those games that looked cool at the time but in retrospect the original plays so much better. They add so many frames of animation meaning there's tons of input lag they hadn't ironed out in later Kirby games of this style, which makes most abilities an unsatisfactory chore to use, the opposite of how it should be (one or two abilities like Ball are more user-friendly by having it bounce off the top of the screen but no one used that). Also, the music sounds off-tempo and the game is much easier, with bosses becoming slow and cumbersome, especially Meta Knight who used to be a test of reflexes but can now be defeated by button-mashing even at half health. Even HAL seems to want to forget this remake since they represent Butter Building with its hardware-impressive rotating towers as the NES version in later games (it was replaced with boring static rooms on GBA, possibly because the backgrounds noonger have animated details or because it was rushed). The 3D Classics remake on 3DS eShop is better, it retains GBA performance improvements like slowdown reduction and gap-dash consistency.

For what purpose? These are very straight remakes that were done better elsewhere. Didn't they get rid of the co-op mode?
>>7348154
Remakes in general during this time period were kiddified (be especially cautious with any Nintendo-produced remake) but Dawn of Souls is an "enhanced" port of Origins which is an enhanced port of the Wonderswan remakes. Difference is, Origins offered a difficulty selection - DoS removes this option and forces you to play in Easy Mode. Also, magic was switched from a spell-charge per level system into a traditional MP system and additional restorative items are available, making mages OP. It's up to you if you think the "rebalancing" is better on FFII but for FFI it was a definite downgrade, that version only survives on the bonus nostalgia bosses. FFII's bonus dungeon is pants btw, it's mainly a recolored version of the endgame with a nonsensical story.

>River City Ransom Advance
>For what purpose?
River City Ransom's GBA edition had fun additions to it, like the ability to recruit friendly helpers and had a much more involved story. The downside is there's a completely nonsensical "honor" system that determines who is willing to join you, and you get penalized or "become considered evil" for doing asinine things like using one weapon too much, and become considered good by even dumber things like running into walls (yeah, you can farm good karma by running into the edge of the screen over and over for some reason). But it's a good take on the game otherwise.

As for Bubble Bobble O&N, I dunno, I just like Bubble Bobble. I don't remember anything wrong with it.

Can't speak for Guardian Heroes, still haven't played either. And I also prefer the Genesis original to Super Heroes. But I still think Super is a good game worth playing. It's a love letter to other Genesis games too, working things like a Flicky stage and so forth.

It's also simultaneously both a reboot and a sequel, where it retells essentially the same events of the original but claims to be in the future of it. Where they're doomed to repeat the same mistakes of the past. It's kind of an odd plot but Treasure were always kind of oddballs in that department.

Most of my recommendations were already said in the thread, but I would recommend most of the Bomberman games on it. Tournament is basically Bomberman and Zelda blended together with a dash of Pokémon. If you liked Tournament, then Jetters: Densetsu no Bomberman is practically the same thing, but without the charabom battles. Max 2 is pretty solid as regular Bomberman games go. Lastly, Jetters Game Collection is a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the minigames were addictive, while some were not so fun. Also has a solid pinball game and battle mode with different playable characters. I really don't recommend Classic NES Series: Bomberman though, because it's the NES game, but worse.

To all those who liked Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga but disenfranchised with most of the follow-ups, you might like Tomato Adventure, the game it was based on. Problem is there's no fully finished fantranslation out there last checked so you'll have to play along with a story summary.

>console has retro hardware on startup
>doesnt even have hardware 3D acceleration
>basically portable SNES
>get like 2-3 threads about it on the whole board
>some seething retard comes in screaming "NOT RETRO"
do you have nothing better to do?

There are quite a few GB/C/A games that won't work well or at all on a flash cart. Anything with special hardware in it is potentially a problem. But you can get original carts for those games if you really want to play them. This is one of the reasons I never bothered with an SD2SNES or whatever it's called. I bought originals of all the games I wanted that wouldn't run on an ED long before either of those flash carts came out.

i had M3, not ezflash, and used it on DS, but all the games i had worked perfectly. added savestates/save management was also good.

like? i only recall having issues with SMA4 and NES ports but i could remember wrong.
>Anything with special hardware in it is potentially a problem.
its true but its obvious. the only game i had that had this was warioware twisted, because of the gyroscope.

At least in my experience the American version seems to be. Haven't seen it on ebay much, ,and I never see it anywhere else.

Even with that 8-bit DAC, you're missing a lot if you don't play in stereo. GBA games make heavy use of stereo effects. Please get an appropriate adapter and play with earphones or any kind of external speakers.

I'm sure there's lists and youtubes that cover the games in depth. There are a few that have an accelerometer /gyroscope/light sensor/etc. Some with IR. My EZ flash doesn't have a dot code reader. Maybe the emulators could be ripped and put on a flash cart along with the games? I'd actually like to see that.

i know theres a hack for warioware twisted that maps rotation to L/R. but ofc this still wont recapture the fun.
>There are a few that have an accelerometer /gyroscope/light sensor/etc
but the question is, do they even make much difference. out of all the games recced in this thread, i only remember boktai had light sensor, and drill dozer had vibro. thats it. pokemon had real time clock, not sure if ezflash emulates it, better google it. the rest of special hardware games are some jp only titles and yoshi topsy turvy which was mediocre game. theres only a handful few and honestly they dont make much difference. i'd say only WW Twisted is really worth it.

I remember hearing Nintendo coated their games with a bittering agent to avoid the young from ingesting the games.

>>7340065
I think those sites require login, and I don't want to deal with that. I only relatively recently (a decade ago) got into portables, and still don't have a GBA yet, but its library of amazing games has kept me entertained.

They are very colorful and enjoyable platforming games. I was hoping for more Kirby and they ended out being interestingly unique. Definitely get them.

>>7353429
Yeah, I mostly got those from rummaging through the random bins for cheap. Be aware to look for the pressed numbers on the label, accurate logos for "advance" and "Nintendo" on the shell, and the correct font for "Nintendo" on the PCB.

Amazing series. Loved them since playing Super Dodgeball and River City Ransom on the NES. Reviewers of the day did not like the games as much as I did which was an indication that my tastes can differ from most.

Whether you consider the games with playing or even know about them is a whole different thing. If there were great popular games that required certain hardware the flash cart developers would add that to their cards. Unless they're a faggot who refuses to include an RTC because their mommy didn't buy them pokeman when they a baby or whatever.

No mention of Summon Night Swordcraft Story 1 & 2? They're short rpgs like "Tales of" but with a single character when in battle. Surprisingly fun games!
