despite all the zdoomisms i'm quite enjoying this. there is some lovely mid nineties texturing here...

• transparent texture (midgrate) used on a wall, giving random colours in the holes
• alignment of sector using flat17 cuts the lights off in the middle
• step1 and other "small pattern" allowed to tile "too much"

not saying these are bad necessarily... just that it makes the map feel like it came from 1995.. this is not necessarily a bad thing

copypasting rooms is i think generally a bad idea. repetitive gameplay is never good. fortunately all four rooms were cleared quickly so in this case it wasn't bad but still.

finally a room where i can actually see!! yeah a lot of this map is dark, maybe a bit too dark, in my opinion "dark but not annoyingly so" is about light level 128, less than that, 112, 96, should be reserved for occasional use

I just checked muh resource pasta (in OP's post, last pastebin link); they haven't been made. You can try asking in the zDoom forums to see if they have been done before. I remember seeing a few chaingunner variants (Dual Chiangunner, Improv. Chaingunner) which might have used a clean version of the firing animations of the original chaingunner.

Plus, you'll have a zDoom account which you can use to track most of the current modern mods for Doom. Not sure if you'll receive an immediate answer in Doomworld. I'm not sure how things work in that place

As a follow up to >>733420, first of all you forgot the 6, 7, and 8 rotations - the chaingunner's asymmetric sprite means he needs all 8 rotations, and unlike the other zombies he actually has them in the IWAD, so that's inconsistent right off the bat. Second, it's obvious you just drew lines on the barrel without taking into account the shading based on the height of each indentation - you can look at CPOSG8 to see what I'm talking about.

Like I said, it takes more time to make thinks look _good_, which is what I'm going for with this. These are the kind of things I take into account when working on sprites myself, and I'm hardly any good at it in the first place.

Ok, so what you need to do is this

>Make the chaingunner in-fight with the zombiemans and/or the shotgunner located before the two other chaingunners.
>Take either the shotgun or the chaingun, enter the secret room with the shotgunners and blast them off
>Don't move yet, because there's a high chance one of the chaingunners located in the switch room are still alive and they'll blast you from the outside.

And that should be it, I suppose

I had trouble with it too, specifically in the Chex Quest 3 chapter. I forget what difficulty I was on. Led to a lot of awesome RIP AND TEAR moments with the spork. It'd also be a bit easier if all the ammo types were named clearer, not just some permutation of "Zorch".

On the other hand, Chex Quest 3 was the first Doom type game I played through after these threads reminded me of my nostalgia for the original CQ, so I'd like to think my skills have improved from starting to play through Doom on UV.

New version of MonsterMash is done. Featuring far too many changes to bother listing every little thing, here's a rundown of the highlights:

-6 new monsters: The Trite, Inferno, Hades Elemental, Scrag (R667 Wicked), Overlord, and Terminator join the mash!
-Introducing the monster mashers! MonsterMash now comes with its own set of weapons designed for maximum mashing mayhem!
-Several standard Doom monsters have been given slight touch-ups, e.g. Chaingunners now use the correct firing sound, Zombiemen have a short rapid-fire sequence to make them less useless, Cacos/Hell Nobles now bleed the correct colors, etc.
-Fully-complete GLDEFS lump, giving everything dynamic lights and brightmaps in OpenGL mode.
-Lots of little balance tweaks to existing monsters from the previous version.

Most of them are taken from Stronghold, but some are reworks of Demon Eclipse weapons. I liked having a set of weapons with a consistent visual theme while still feeling Doom-y, and those worked nicely.

The machinegun numbers weren't in DE. Presumably because they're kinda derpy with the weapon bobbing, which you can see in the eriguns wad someone posted earlier.

Not sure which monsters you find to have clashing themes. Most of them are chosen specifically because they feel at least somewhat Doom-ish. Exception of course goes to the Serpent Demon, aka the Heretic/Hexen Chaos Serpent - it's admittedly a nod to Mordeth more than anything.

The Quake rips work well in Doom.

Shadow's just a good monster. I at least used a different sprite set to mix it up. And he ain't from KDIZD - it's been around longer than that. Hell, the behavior originates to the Fast Imp from STRAIN, and was just given a new sprite set somewhere along the way.

Eh, agree to disagree on the themes part I suppose. The Trite and Quake ones are a bit debatable (though I think they work fine), but I see no issue with the Grell and Vulgar alongside standard Doom monsters. In fact I find they work quite well. Bear in mind one of the main goals of MonsterMash is to combine monsters that have a somewhat consistent visual theme without using modifications of existing Doom monsters - so no Stone Imps, Cyborg Demons, etc, etc. There's a focus on using original spritesets, or at least ones whose sources aren't so immediately obvious.

As for the Machine gun numbers, pic related. Problem is the way the weapon doesn't immediately center upon the beginning of the firing animation, which the ammo numbers rely on, hence the problem.
