Will game prices ever come back down or should I just get used to dropping $100 per game?

>> No.7300961

Prices will normalize or the market will crash. Either way they're coming down soon enough.

Why would you think an encapsulated sub-market based around a non-renewable flow of goods would obey laws of actual markets?

non-renewable technically sure, but supply is substantially higher than demand for 99.9% of games.

If you don't want to pay, then emulate or get flash carts/ODEs. I doubt prices will go down for a long time.

>> No.7301030

As long as people are willing to pay those prices, they'll stick around. You could also get lucky with garage sale sites and people trying to quicksell their collections to get certain games for cheaper. Guy at my job sold me Silent Hill and Resident Evil 2 for 50 dollars total because he needed rent money.

>> No.7301037

Prices will never "come back down" but maybe some day they'll find a cure for the kind of retardation that makes you incapable of finding games for less than $100.

this
prices will probably plateau after all this lockdown shit is over with and people want to go outside again but i doubt they'll ever really significantly fall
gen 3 and gen 4 game prices already pulled back a bit and then stabilized so I don't think those are really moving, and then gen5/gen6 games outside of the PS2 were never as common so its a bit unlikely prices will pull back
every year that goes by though there are more ways to play old games

Games that are mid to low tier might see a drop in prices when the boomers who cared about those all die off, but "high tier" games will always have an artificially high reference price because of retards who can't into actual investments. Timesplitters 2 is on Xbox and Gamecube
Devil May Cry is on fuckin everything, including Switch.
Gauntlet Dark Legacy is on Xbox and Gamecube.

I guess I'll check out Way of the Samurai though looks fun.

The "HD" versions of Devil May Cry have some messed up graphics and they did shitty edge enhancement on all the textures. It's not game-breaking but the PS2 version is better.

This. I bought stuff ages ago, had my fun, and sold most of it. I was late to the party of old computer hardware and still got most of what I wanted by waiting and stalking eBay and Facebook marketplace. Flash carts are a godsend.
Now I mostly collect Japanese Saturn games that are complete per the listing on Satakore and only if I really want to play the game/peruse the art in the manual. Most of the stuff in this category has sat at current prices for well over a decade, even with how hard it is to get anything from Japan right now.
The only other games I collect are Shin Megami Tensei and Postal related. The only really expensive ones I'm missing are US Jack Bros and the ancient Japanese Gauntlet-like MegaTen games. Even if shit continues to climb in price I have a good salary and a great savings rate.
If your hobby is more than a drop in the bucket compared to your life, home, and career, you need to adjust your priorities. Please, I'm begging you.

eBay only shows completed listings from the past 3 months. There's an auction ending for the game in 3 days anyway, just watch that and see what it goes for, and then price your listing similarly.

Millions of copies laying around in an attic that people don't care enough about to make 5 bucks off of. The people that do are the people who want to make big money off of it.
Buying retro games is fucking retarded and the only times I do is when I find a decent copy at a thrift store or pawn shop for a not retarded price. The only retro things worth paying for are flashcarts and real hardware.

yes, GC is prime nostalgia cash-in point right now, people paying 50-100 for some games even when you can run the game right off an HDD on Wii or emulate it flawlessly in Dolphin. I cashed out a while back on my GC and bought the consoles I never had back in 90s/2000s, it's pretty nice to see what I missed.

The other real lesson is, if you want to buy to sell, do it with Nintendo, because their brand doesn't depreciate. Nobody gives a fuck about Sony or Sega or Atari or Microsoft, they are just game box makers to the collecting crowd. You ask a playstation collector and they will more point out the specific devs they like/collect, whereas you ask a nintendo collector and they basically lap up anything that has their brand on it, and at much higher prices too (obv there are exceptions but they tend to be outliers).

Wii U I think will have some value just from people hyping it up. Someone somewhere will convince people it is worth it to play Nintendo Land and Xenoblade X.

Thats also a good point. It feels like theres a hard line as to where game preservation is basically impossible. You buy SM64 for instance and you're getting the complete package guaranteed and that never changes. As games slowly become more and more live service bullshit that gets discontinued however there is more content lost that cant be preserved.

Ethernet method requires an ethernet port on the PS2, I don't have that.
FreeDVDBoot autopatcher requires firmware 3.10 or 3.11, I have 2.10.

>theres no hipster retro scene in my country
Well I live in the U.S. where the hipster scene is in full swing, lately though, I've began to notice a number of upper middle class folk coming down from their ivory towers to the poorer parts of the city just to rummage through any surrounding thrift stores, surprisingly the prices for games, media, and all other items for that matter, haven't increased much in price, but god forbid you're actually trying to buy a gaming console, a used ps2 can go as high as $200 in most places. I honestly don't see nostalgia bait dying down anytime soon, which makes me glad I never sold my ps2/gamecube/PC/etc. games, seeing as how they'll probably increase in value as time passes, hopefully by the time I'm 30 (currently 22), the prices will have sky rocketed and I'll be able to live like a king, but that's just wishful thinking on my part.
