Do you use frontends, /vg/?
Just started using Retroarch, i'm not asking for any sort of tutorials but do you have and advice particularly regarding Ps1 emulation? I mean i feel like the game runs well but maybe there's some option i'm unaware of that could make things better.

there was a front end that someone here posted in a thread about 3 weeks ago and it was really cool and simple looking. Didn't have all the stupid busy shit that most emulators have, but just enough info about a rom and the ability to organize by emulator.

I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called and fucking google and youtube history didn't save the pages I visited on it. I think it was relatively new, but I'm bummed as hell that I'll probably never find it again..

Never affected my computers, no CPU/GPU is used for the UI in-game. I've used RA for Win98 on a P4 and it's fine (but impractical) there too, and it's fine on utter potatoes like the Wii.

Yeahhh, okay, kinda sucks. Wish it would just ignore that shit and just let you push any key/button per core and it would just work.

It's not without flaws but it wraps up most shit up to DC nicely enough with low lag, non-dogshit framepacing, and shaders (not just useful for CRT memeshaders, stuff like a light bilinear filter which leaves things just sharp enough too). That shit simply is not guaranteed in every standalone program. I can see how it's probably a pain in the ass for emudevs to work with, but eh... if RA died today it would be in a great spot for most retro games. Got mine.

Any menu is easy to use, you haven't invented the wheel.
>doesn't follow any principle of input counting to access relevant configuration
>completely disregards the importance to provide the user visual information necessary to help
>endless lists of menus and submenus making it a pain to navigate

Might as well write myself an Ansible playbook where I put in the yaml all the configurations that I want to do so I get the RA experience I need out of the box and do the versioning of the configurations myself in my own git server.

You see I could do that. But It doesn't sing my balls to do so.

RA doesn't make sense on Desktop. And even non-desktop devices, PPSSPP a fucking standalone knows better how to use it's accessibility on touch-only devices. But of course PPSSPP is a well designed piece of software.
RA is a mess and it's persistence to keep building itself on top of the trash Interface they have will make things worse with each release. It's somehow worse than the implementation of the Office ribbon in Sibelius.

The existence of some of the best emulators for their respective platforms (the Sega Genesis core) is more than enough reason to learn how retroarch works

Pro tip: Just go to the user interface setting and disable the appearance of all the useless niche settings, and use the manual content adder instead of the messy automatic one. Literally no excuses anymore. This is how mine looks. No bs, no fucking random metadata thats missing on half the games anymore just games
