I hate these things so much. They have so many fucking problems and you have to spend 200+ usd to outfox them to the point it's a real mobile console. without being mobile it's pointless, you could have hooked up a cheap business laptop to your hdmi screen or old desktop computer and it'd have been cheaper and more powerful.

I bought a zero a few years ago just to see if things would 'work out' with me and these arm linux computers and so far I've been mostly just pissed off. The peripherals, if I ever get confident with the shit, I will reuse with a 3 or 4. But 4 I read about many errors it has with things like retropie and lakka. I don't trust it.

As a neet spending 200+ on the shit is kinda a big deal.

>gpio screen
>le driver issue
>usb sound card
>breaks and has looooud whining noises
>bluetooth headset
>works in raspbian but not lakka
>soldering being harder than it looks
>having to buy soldering iron(s) and such
>heatsinks, cords, cases, mouse/keyboard, hdmi splitter, second lcd screen for composite and it's issues, possibly having to buy an hdmi screen as a third screen
>only nightly of lakka working with composite
>having to download many different os's 'just in case' with limited neet tier hdd space, slow speeds, etc
>guides not matching what you are seeing

Hates them. Hates them forever.

pic of my current project that I am going to make into a cigar box umpc to be upgraded and or repaired over time.

Of course my book reading piece of shit raspbian I have working with the awful sound card via usb and the bluetooth headset, but lakka hates it.

I want to have a device that can be small enough to charge via cheap solar panels and or just be small enough to live with anywhere, even in the woods. Take it with you wherever you go. Like a phone but not controlled by jewgle.

The idea is to escape the jewgle phones that are made to be an all seeing eye, spam you with ads, and designed to break without repair. A custom umpc won't be as faggy. However it's a pain in the ass too so far because you make mistakes if you didn't do enough research. Even with research you don't know how bad it is until you try it.

>> No.7283978

forgot that I used a boefeng 10v from 5v adapter thing so I'd not have to solder the lcd anywhere or anything. It halves the amps and doubles the v, the lcd is 12v at 6 watts, so with the 1amp bank's second usb out it gets 5w at 10v rather than 12v at 6w like it wants, seems to work fine. You can even control brightness, contrast, hue, and whatever else it said. I should have turned down the brightness before that glare tier shot of Lakka with no sound.

I was happy the ham radio's cord actually fits and works. The only good surprise I've had so far in the past 3 years I've own this thing.

I've not tested it as it's not a proper device yet but it's a 15 usd, or was, 16 amp hour battery. With both usb's discharging perhaps it's 8 hours it'd last but I'm not sure. It's rather heavy. The solar part is a bit of a joke but I have other larger panels that one could take with himself.

>> No.7284003

>>7283980
The important thing isn't amp hours though, it's the amps it puts out at once. For a zero you need 2 amps at once. A four needs even more than that so you need a 20w battery bank for something like that. Mine is 2amps, one of it's ports is anyway, the other 1amp that the screen runs off of, is only 10w, or perhaps 15, depends on how you look at it and I've not the voltameters or whatever to test it. It might be lowering it's watts to compensate for draining in two directions. i do not know. 16 might be 8 on top of it. But it seems to work.

so for something more serious it needs like 20w coming out of 5v, 4amps, not 2.

>> No.7284125

>>7284109
The cheap business laptops I've owned are too much for small cheap solar panels that'd you'd want to carry. Also larger things not only harder to carry but break easier and tend to be more expensive and a laptop isn't as repairable as a pi system in many pieces. The screen breaks, I buy another. A laptop is not like that.

It's a size and wattage issue though really. I'd have to get some inverter to get the laptop(s) to work through a small tier panel, and then it'd take obnoxiously long to charge if it were done that way by sacrificing amps for volts.

If the peripherals last ten years one could merely have 5 pi soc to replace itself with many sd's to be burned via one another or the android to burn them when the sd or OS gets fucked. It'd last a long time.

One could just get a pile of phones for cheaper but then the gov could send out a virus to them as it's jewgle you'd be totally dependent on, AND would be tracked so long as they are on. The Pi's have advantages.

Also, laptops have cia controlled cpu's post 2007. There's that too.

I have many reasons why I took interest into system on a chip computers and the fetish of it goes back to 2007ish when phones were not a thing but the gp2x was. It's one reason I'm tempted to buy a pocketgo or similar, it uses the software of the menu the gp2x used, and I wanted one back then but had to settle for a phat hacked psp instead for my go to computer device. But that's dated and the pi makes more sense.

About money, one could donate plasma for 200-300 usd in the USA per month. Adding ebt to that and you have a very profitable situation. So the devices cost 200? But every new soc costs what? 35-40ish usd? Mabye 50ish? How much toothpaste do you think I go through? Zero actually, I'd use salt and baking soda on my teeth and make soap with wood ash and the dead animals I've killed rather than sell the disgusting skins.

Fun fact, if you wash the tannins from acorns they are edible.

The knife in the square has a paracord around it.

The bivvy and the foil bag are blankets to use within the tent as is the duster. It's about the layers.

There's a tarp actually in my bag but I've altered the image so much I pasted over it at some point but actually it's in the bag right now. Also the bivvy doubles as a tarp.

snare? For what? By the by the handle of the 12 piece maxam knife has line and a hook inside it and such.

Repelling bugs? Other than fire and wearing long clothing?

Umbrella's are used when necessary. Would you want to sit in direct sunlight for eight hours while charging your devices?

Socks? Of course you'd bring socks. That goes without saying. I suppose you wish for me to specifiy that wool socks are what is recommended?

A sewing kit is there to fix them also. Such things can go in your ass pockets, spares. In the army people put spare socks as they dry in their shoulder straps, not that my duster has one but my trench does, of which you're not supposed to wear denim anyway, leather is safer. But heavier. Honestly with that bivvy I'd rather be unsafe. Fuck the heavy leather trench coat. And fuck wool socks. Do you think ancients had wool socks? No, they put their feet by a small fire in their muddhutt just as I soon would.

Honestly I make starter kits. Would you think such a nice mud hut would be made in a day? It would not, and would often fail, so you want these items OFF AND ON, but you do want them.

And I can make my own umbrella when it breaks from thatch and tree branches. Preferably palm, of which is easy to twist together in to shapes.

Even if you don't NEED an umbrella and could get the sunshine on you, it's just wise to have it for things like birds shit and sudden rain hitting your electronics before you put them back into plastic bags you have on your person.

It's basically a chiclet styled keyboard with a bunch of ports. The Raspberry Pi 400 does not have a traditional Raspberry Pi 4 in it, it has a unique PCB with altered specs. The 400 has a Cortex-A72 like the Pi4, but is clocked at 1.8GHz, while the Pi 4 is clocked at 1.5GHz. The 400 does have a heat sync over the CPU and is clocked higher. It can be clocked up to 2GHz. The 400 also has a different IO configuration (different number of USB ports for example). The 400 has 4GB of RAM, and cannot easily be swapped with an 8GB Pi 4.

But the Pi 400 can be powered with a USB phone battery, and a tablet or a phone can be used as a screen with the right set up. It might be a good solution for those who want to try getting into raspberry Pi emulation, as it has a shell and keyboard. Might also be good for emulating retro microcomputers.

I am pretty sure that would be the case. The Raspberry Pi 400 has a flat metal heat sync. Some users have noticed that the Pi 400 has a revised Broadcom 2711 which might have better thermals. People have clocked it to 2GHz.

hey now it works to synchronize the heat in between the processor and air surrounding it

Yeah I don't know why I keep typing it as heat sync. But all the same, a heat sink on a RP4 will probably get similar results. But run hotter.

Unless it can do low level parallel RDP and RSP at full speed, nah. It can't. Last I checked it can't.

It's fine for most software cores up to PS1 but crashes with no survivors on anything else.

Holy shit you dumb cunt did you even watch the Conker one? Do you not see the ~20fps + slowdown, or hear the resulting sound breakup?

>multiplayer with highly simplified environments and no AI
Play PD's first cutscene with the ship dropping her in and campaign combat and we'll see about that full speed.

2.2GHz at 63c with passive cooling:

even more interesting is how cool (temperature wise) the outer shell is. However. This person had to enable a turbo mode in the APU to clock it to 2.2GHz and up the voltage, and doing so will void warranty. This device seems to overclock better than the regular Pi 4. Part of it is because of the large heat sink/ shield that covers the internals, and the other part is the better power management in the revised Broadcom APU.

Running twister os and using retropie on an rpi4, I was able to play LoZ, mario party, smash, and jfg with no real issues.

A lot of work is being done to improve performance, and even allow the usage of x86 applications. Got a couple of modern indie games to run with no issues.
