Is there any game from the first-fifth generation of vidya that really kept you playing and sort of rekindled your love for vidya?

>>7278375
Can't think of any at the moment, but thanks for reminding me I need to finish YKK.

It’s a goodun.
>>7278398
I agree, but I’ve played them a ton. Still adore Umihara Kawase though.
Fresh was a bit disappointing but the rest are the perfect amount of challenging and comfy.

I love discovering and playing classics that I never had a chance to when I was growing up. Within the last couple years I've been able to play Startropics, Ristar, Link's Awakening, and Silent Hill. Playing those for the first time gave me that feeling I got back when I was a kid.

>> No.7279769

First Dragon Quest. It is so simple and straightforward, yet it is such an adventure. Just going around exploring, it is unburdened by some shitty edgy story and needless time sink bullshit mini games/systems modern games are fond of. It made me feel like a kid with a video game again, a feeling which I thought I lost being jaded asshole for so long.

Play old vidya in general tends to wash away the rust new vidya leaves you with. It reminds you that games still can be amazing, even if it’s only in the retroactive sense most of the time.

Playing old fighting games via figthcade has done this for me. I wouldn't say that I was falling out of video games but in general I was feeling less desire or motivation to try new things and just kept going back to stuff I played a million times already. I got into fighting games though rather recently and playing these older titles online with people has been a ton of fun, I play daily even and can find myself playing a set for like an hour or two when before I would maybe play a single player game for like 30 min at best.

What should I play instead? Games where all you do is hold down a button to fire and avoid projectiles? Sounds like fun.

Most shooters take more effort and thought to play than CT so yeah. I recommend Gunstar Heroes.

Same here. The first Silent Hill spooked me but the second was was super relaxing. I think the second one made the atmosphere more deppresing than tense so its just moody and oddly calm and comfortable.

Its good to be able to go back and cherrypick. Not every game was gold back then but we can retroactively select the very best. I personally also like going to the simoler origins, is a good reality check to kinda assimilate the time passed and all that was inbetween then and now.

Ocarina of Time never fails to make me happy. No matter how many times I play it I always find myself not only truly engrossed in its lovely world but also highly engaged with its classic gameplay. It is timeless fun. It brings me back to those feelings I had as a child exploring the world while also playing on my adult sensibilities with interesting narrative themes. It's quite exemplary that the game is able to make me experience this child/adult dynamic outside of the game as well as inside of it as an actual game mechanic.

No. I'm forty. Why would I have my interest in this medium REkindled by Mario 3 or whatever? I had my interest kindled by that stuff to begin with. And also there's the fact that it never died away.
