Tried playing it last month, and it wasn't appealing at all. Feels like if it wasn't made by Rare and on the N64, it would be completely forgotten.

I think early 3D M rated games aged way harder than most games out there. You could tell the only theme most devs could think of was "M Rated" and went for the most infantile and annoying versions of adult content. I honestly don't think it was until late 6th gen that most M rated games became less cringe.

Funny timing, I just started playing it last day for funsies and it's actually sorta fun. Maybe it's just the tigher, more linear pacing that makes it more palatable, especially after coming from beating DK64 and Tooie.

The padding, backtracking and unnecessarily huge levels in both is obscene, but I could deal with it by limiting myself to 1 hour of playing per day.

The Tag Anywhere hack for DK64 helped a lot.
