Mancave setup

Are you able to have all your consoles hooked up at a time?

>> No.727192

>>727175
Yes. It's pretty messy, I have to use two 3-way splitter boxes, and run another console through a VCR, but it works. All my retro shit (well, all consoles up to the PS2 and Xbox) are hooked up to a giant box TV.

I have a plasma TV with a PS3 and 360 hooked up. The 360 has a malfunctioning DVD drive (so it takes a LOT of persuasion to get it to run games and movies) and the PS3 is a Netflix box at this point.

too lazy to take a new picture, so here's an old /v/ingo timestamp image.

Sadly I cannot, so I have my older consoles are on my shelf out of view to the right and take them out when I want to play them.

I apologize that it only mainly shows new consoles but it was "idort who owns 360, ps3, wii, and wii u"

I even took the wii out of my closet for this picture.

>> No.727271

No picture currently, but in my living room I have two TVs. One HD for modern console, and one CRT for retro.
Wii, 3 shitty, and PC (second monitor for youtube) are hooked up to the HD.
NES, second 3shitt for coop, SNES, and N64 are hooked up to the CRT.

Whenever I buy more retro consoles, they're being hooked up as well.

TV only has one composite input, and I've got six consoles, which is the maximum amount, plugged into the switch box, so I guess that I'm maxed out as far as vintage consoles go. I also am forced to have the WiiU and PS3 hooked into an HDMI switch, which I paid $10 for. It's actually not bad.

Pretty much, just have to switch the power cords. Once I get a CRT I'll probably move my NES and PS1 over there and occasionally my Wii. Might just get another AC adapter because I use my Wii often and taking the power cord out from the little compartment in my desk is kind of annoying.

no mancave for me. though fiancee loves games herself so she's got no issue with my consoles. so our front room can easlily become a "mancave". we have a couple of PS2's (FMCB, 1 with a HDD and one with drive face ripped off for swapping discs), 2 xboxes (both softmodded with a ton of emulators), 360 and PS3 (getting modded as soon as official support dies off for them).
All those running on a HDTV (Xbox and PS2 have component cables for best quality out of them)
Also a PC with Dual screens (Currently posting on my left screen while watching ashens on the right). Retro consoles are mostly in boxes in the bedroom due to ease of emulation but here's what i have:
2 C64's (1 C64, 1 C64C and both 1541 drive and datasette deck)
2 NES consoles (have to replace the ZIF connectors)
1 SNES
1 N64
1 PS1
1 DC

call me a philistine if you want but trying to fit all of the consoles i have in the front room with everything else (PS3 and 360 games, Non-anime DVD's and Anime DVD's split into different collections - Fiancee is a head of screenings at an anime con) is not something i can afford to do. Xbox emulates most old games i'd play really well and scales them fine over component at 720p anyway. plus financial circumstances and available plug sockets are limiting enough that i can't really use a secondary CRT TV either.

I would absolutely pay a premium for a previously undiscovered model of HDTV that doesn't introduce input lag, especially with SD sources, and that doesn't mangle 240p content.

It's a 1X8 RCA Audio/Video Splitter. You input (where it says IN) the TV and it allows you to hook up up to 8 independent devices at once without any sort degradation of signal. I have a 1X4 model for my PSX, N64, DC, and soon to be Retron 3. Works bretty gud and it only cost me 10 bucks. This one is going for 24 on eBay current with free shipping. Go snag one.

she doesn't like the idea of me breaking shit. One of the PS2's is hers and when opening it up once i accidentally pulled out the power ribbon to the power button (fat PS2) and she wasn't happy. I did fix it but that's why i'm always cautious about modifying shit. it's why i haven't tried to install modchips in any of my consoles that and i'm not confident in my soldering skills.

>> No.727694

My advice is to practice. Go buy a busted up PS2 and tear that shit apart. You aren't going to get better unless you learn how to do it. Modchip the broken PS2 and then re-do it on the working one. Great practice. Once you've worked on a PS2 Slim, everything else is roomy by comparison.

it was partially because of sentimental value since that PS2 was one of her last presents from her mother while she was younger. Hell i can understand that since i was that protective over my crystal xbox for the same reason. Right now I have an everything attached to an HDTV. I'm going to be moving pretty soon, and I'm getting a room big enough to have an HDTV as well as a CRT for retro.

My plan is to have PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and an HTPC hooked up to my HDTV.

Then hook up my SNES, N64, Gamecube, Dreamcast, and PS2 to the CRT. As well a modded Wii to play emulators on.

I can't wait to play retro on CRT again.

All hooked up at the same time? Absolutely not, I used to get by with an A/V switch box and my old TV with many inputs. But now days I have a TV with x2 HDMI, x1 Scart, x1 Component, x1 Composite all used up, A/V box used up, plus now we have Sky+ and a Wii U.

I really want/need a receiver with a bajillion inputs, swapping out cables and using shitty switch boxes is lame.

I've got an issue hooking up stuff to my CRT that maybe some /vr/os can help me with.

My TV has two composite inputs, one of which is also an S-video input. The composite input on the front of the TV has a poor connection, so I'd like to use s-video and composite inputs through the same video input which will be connected to an s-video/composite switchbox. The problem is that the TV will not accept a composite input through that port if an s-video cable is inserted; it doesn't even have to be connected to anything. So basically I have to reach behind the TV and plug in/remove the s-video cable when I want to switch between s-video and composite. Is there any way around this?

I'm working on it right now, just bought 3 power strips with individual switches for each outlet, 2 more switches bringing the total to 4 4-way s-video switches plus a 4-way composite and a 3-way RF switch.

My TV has a single composite/S-video input and RF. I haven't got it all together but tests so far show clean power and no ghosting or issues with the pictures.

Not the best photo but here's how have mine setup. I cheat and have a 24inch Trinitron on a TV cart with 5th gen systems hook up that has wheels. I roll it out when I want to play those systems and store it in a walkway closet when it's not in use. I have debated about setup up a second cart with 4th/3rd gen systems but I'm not sure I would give the time playing those to make it worth it.

I have a tankstick with happ sticks and buttons that I use sometimes for whatever system and a filco mj with browns and a g400 for steam games.
