I don't know, last time I checked it wasn't in development at all. The main writer is now writing a series of books, so he's out of the picture too.

Doom is active, because it's ridiculously easy to mod (map design is just drawing 2D polygons, weapons/enemies are just 2D sprites, has relatively friendly C-like scripting language, etc).

Last I heard (about a month ago) they were making slow progress on Act 4; Seth is done with his books/Destiny shit for the moment so he's back on writing. A release this year is way too optimistic to hope for but I honestly think 2022 is fairly likely
Also the Tevs did absolutely nothing wrong and Admiral Steele is a war hero

Super Metroid seems to have active modding with TCs. A Link to the Past and Super Metroid got a combination randomizer where you jump between both games and find each other's items wherever you logically could at your current unlock state, which is pretty interesting if you're into that.

Trackmania and Marble Blast have active modding/mappers if you like those kind of games.

Tomb Raider is still getting custom maps made and posted to trle.net.

I like how one of the mappers actually does her own voice acting for Lara in her mods, since she sounds pretty similar to her. AgentXP. She makes pretty good levels, too.

Not sure how active it is anymore, but Operation Flashpoint (Cold War Assault) had (has?) a huge number of mods. Everything from medieval stuff to 40k.

Without how massively successful doom modding was/is why didn't it become a industry standard?

>> No.7268369

Three Reasons:
>Less incentive to purchase DLC
>Requires developers to produce content at a much higher standard for expansions or DLC
>Some games just don't have the same interest
