not really, you can get a ps2 which has backwards compatibility with ps1 games. and the controllers are tougher, if you get an original. one cool thing is the original ps1 controller that didn't have analog sticks. unless you're talking about the mini bullshit system with the cord that's too short, then definitely go for that if you wanna play the old games that are on it. or get a ps3 and go on psn to download the ones you want. metal gear solid and castlevania: sotn are 2 great reasons like the one poster said. ps1 has a huge library of classic games. moreso than any system, in my opinion

PSX's have notoriously unreliable DVD drives and hard drives. I don't recommend getting one unless it's really cheap and possibly just for decoration. The controllers are cool because they have the longest cable for a Playstation controller. However the PS1 is absolutely worth it, they're common, working ones are plentiful and the feeling of playing the games on the real system is a real treat.

Get something that isn't very accurately emulated right now, like Saturn or N64. PSX emulation is pixel perfect for nearly every game in its current stage. It's going to hit perfect like SNES in no time and for anything that isn't a hugely obscure thing, it already is.
