What blows my mind about Quake is that Carmack/Romero and everyone else at id never anticipated rocketjumping. According to Romero, they were shocked when the first demos started getting uploading showing it. The possibility never entered their mind. It's crazy because it was something you could do in Rise of the Triad which Romero played many times. I guess at that point it was just seen as some forgettable gimmick in a game full of them.

It's only required once in ROTT, at the end to get to some of El Oscuro's eggs to get the real ending. However there is also a Mercury Flight mode powerups hidden in the level you can also use. You can take shortcuts using it in other parts though.

Mk-noname from '05 (https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom/m-o/mknoname).). Pic related is the TITLEPIC, nothing really interesting in the level itself to screenshot. Made by a 15 year old Slovakian boy, this basically plays like a '94 map. It's a key hunt centred around a teleporter hub. Incredibly easy outside of a few inescapable pits and one annoying (albiet breif) Chasm-esque section. There's a shit ton of ammo and every weapon outside of the BFG which felt unnecessary. 1.5/5

Very dark, the music (Waiting For Romero To Play) and Quake sfx gave this level a really creepy feeling which was not helped by the resource starvation and aggressive use of chaingunners and revenants. Many well done teleportation traps and monster closets that put you on edge even further. The aesthetics were great as well, the red blood and sky contrasting with the green marble and dark metal. 4.5/5

Botero's Mansion from '13 (https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/p-r/pc_botro).). Pcorf remakes his very first map. I like Pcorf's style, his maps are extremely straightforward but fun to plow through. Forgot that I picked up a berserk early on so the ammo conservation was harder than it had to be. Very compact and short challenge map, kind of reminds me of AV Map21. Yeah, the weapon is a bit of a chimera, both mechanically and sprite wise. The SSG tier weapon is a break action double barrel that also has a pump action too, because video games.

Can't open the blue key door from the other side. One wall with enemies behind it never opened. I like needing to slide onto that tiny lip of geometry to get to higher ground. Very Doom II. The shotgun with ammo at the end of a hall where enemies then pop out should have been a SSG. If you alert the enemies early, but skip them to go to the higher ground area, coming back out results in pic related. Looks kind of silly and is like shooting fish in a barrel.

He's an interesting guy. I like DK and Jello alot, I am a big fan. I dont know, Bruce said a lot of fucked up shit and Flipper were notorious junkies in SF Bay area where DK is also from. I think Bruce personally just didn't like him though I have seen people criticize him for being an arrogant know it all who thinks he's a genius.

The other singer and bassist in Flipper, Will Shatter, died shortly after the band broke up in 1987 from a heroin overdose. The Pac-Man stuff in Wolf3D was cool because you had to run from them, you couldn't damage them. They kill you fast if they make contact. Just worked my way through Plutonia Experiment for the first time using mid-level saves. Most fun I've had playing doom, I really liked the smaller, tighter maps. I tried to get through with restarting at the beginning of each level but there were a couple of areas that I really struggled with (Abattoire ending for example).

That said however, maybe it would be best to only use sparing text between levels, and then show more than tell. Started writing a paragraph like I normally would but I have too many nitpicks so it would be obnoxious to read. Here are some notes:
- Ditch the one way doors (like the door where you pick up the blue key and the blue key door itself) and allow players to backtrack
- Most of the space in the level isn't required for progression, the map can be beaten in 6 seconds (I tried for 5 but it doesn't seems possible). Consider moving the blue key to where the shotgun is or adding another keycard.
- The ledge in pic related is annoying to climb up without jumping. Players will automatically climb any ledge 24 units or less so keep that in mind
- The revenant/shotgunner monster closet should have some kind of cover to avoid missiles and buckshot (like a pillar) or monsters like pinkies to use as cover and start some infighting
- Outdoor areas with varying heights are hard to get right, consider making an indoor map to avoid paper thin walls at the map edges (I get that visuals weren't the focus but still)
- Try making a map in Doom format before ZDoom to familiarize yourself with the functions of the original game and not get overwhelmed with complexity
Keep trying, you'd be surprised at how quickly you can improve.

I got TMP.wad (https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom/s-u/tmp)) by unknown. Played on UV.

TMP.WAD was the winner of a PC Zone Doom level creation competition in 1994, and it's easy to see why. Good E2 visuals, solid layout, which just could be a more interconnected. High monster count, good Doom 1 run & gun action and nice boss at the end. Considering the fact that this was made in '94, it sure looks/plays much more refined than 90% of the other maps of that era. Not the toughest map, and there's maybe too much health and ammo lying around, but considering this was made in '94, it's alright. A shame the author of the map seems to be unknown. Honestly, I really had fun playing it.

4.5/5 (compared to today's high standards maybe 3.5/5)
