To be fair. Ecco's situation is not for a lack of trying by the original Dev.

http://www.polygon.com/features/2013/1/30/3925432/fighting-the-tide-the-struggle-to-revive-ecco-the-dolphin

To Sega's credit, at least they've only tried doing Ecco once without Annunziata, and they've been smart enough never to fuck with it again.

It's not that I don't mind such threads once in a blue moon. They've just been too numerous recently.

Watch out, there was a thread similar to this one a few hours ago which was deleted. babbys complained that negative threads should only remain on /v/. It's a stupid notion, but I guess there is some mod on their side or something.

We could have had Ecco 3 and the series possibly wrapped up on the Saturn nearly 20 years ago. Sega keeps refusing to give Annunziata the license back. He just pitched Sega of America recently and they turned him down AGAIN.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-05-02-it-was-just-there-dolphin-dolphin-dolphin

I hope if it's shown there's an audience for The Little Blue, it will convince Sega to let Annunziata make the third game once he finishes with the Big Blue.

Well, SEGA not getting the IP isn't news. What I meant by giving SEGA credit is that besides the Dreamcast 3D game, they've been smart enough not to let anyone else touch it.

True. At least Ecco hasn't suffered the horrible fate of Sonic. There was a planned sequel to the DC game called Sentinels of the Universe but they cancelled that when they ended support for DC.

A lot of people have nostalgia glasses for the Genesis Sonic games, but they don't realize how much fun many of the newer Sonic games are like the Rush and Advance series, and even a few of the new 3d games. Going back to the originals, they really aren't as fast or fun as most people remember.

Advance 1 is the closest to Genesis games. Its really well done. Reminds of Sonic 2 but with a bit more polish in its level design.

It should be Sonic 4 if you asked me.

Advance 2 is very lame in its level design if you're asking for Classic level design. Its fun and very interesting to speed run so if you like speedrunning Advance 2 is great.

Advance 3 does a mix of both and it does an okay job.

They're decent series but not as good as Classic 2D sonic.

I've played them so many times.

I still think they're very well designed and fun to play. I do think people rag on the games like Rush series and Advance 2 too much. Its meant to be for people who like the "fast" nature of Sonic as opposed to momentum, sense of fluid pacing and control.

A lot of the listed games have bad versions now but they haven't fundamentally changed or abandoned what they were.

I think that a franchise is no longer done justice when it is just a name to slap on a completely different game.

I mean final fantasy games are awful now, but they are still very similar to what has gone before.

Resident Evil is the main one for me. Its bad gears of war with the RE name.

Phantasy Star Online 2 is in beta right now (or was it Japanese release?). Either way, it'll have an American release sometime soon.

It's weird how Modern Sonic resembles classic Sega games like After Burner and Space Harrier more than Sonic games. Sort of a weird full circle.

Pretty much all third party franchises that started on Nintendo consoles and moved onto the competition. A differentiation to this would be third party franchises that had a game exclusively on a Nintendo platform, then quickly ported over to the competition for it to die, such as Resident Evil 4 and Capcom trying to recreate it two times in a row and failing.

Capcom saw the error of their ways, and seem to be supporting Nintendo a bit more than usual these days. Now if other companies did the same, the prophecy will come full circle.

The Game System is getting better for certain. Special and Physical split was the best thing to happen yet, and some new Pokemon are incredibly useful. New moves give existing Pokemon more strategies to use, as well.

However the games themselves just don't feel good anymore. The character (not Pokemon) designs are just getting weirder and weirder (though some characters look badass), the evil teams are getting even more gimmicky, Fire starters are BY LAW Fire AND Fighting, and the entire "metagame" is either about one-shotting anything that isn't Blissey or Snorlax or juggling your Pokemon in and out while a sandstorm with spikes is going on.

Yeah, soon moves like that will render actual attacking moves useless. These new moves and systems are just being exploited to the point where you cannot win UNLESS you exploit them yourself.

People complained about Curselax in Gen 2, which is understandable since Snorlax was already an overpowering Pokemon. But I'm certain it could be just banned and still be more balanced and fair than today's metagame.

The teams are getting gimmicky but they have decent motive(except Team Aqua/Magma).

You act like the metagame in and 1st gen and 2nd gen was so much better. 1st gen was literally 4th -5th gen metagame but with less options and more braindead stuff. 2nd gen was just boring ass stalling.
