So I hesitated to play the Iron Maiden VN for years and years because of a single reason:
I've been told that it had NTR and I'm fervently anti-NTR
Turns out though, it wasn't the case at all!
So yeah at one point in the game you find Mana "on a date" with another guy, and Shinji gets heart broken. But then you realize that the other kid isn't Mana's bf, but just another robot pilot. And at the end of the game, it's pretty clear that Mana actually does like Shinji and she wasn't just pretending. The game is a great emotion rollercoaster, you fall for Mana at first, then you become extremely cautious and start doubting her, then at the end she comes out as the prime waifudonna.

Well, VNs based on TV series are almost never canon, so you're not saying anything surprising.
However, Iron Maiden is so well done that it could easily be canon, as nothing in it contradicts the TV series AND it also had actual TV series staff working on it.
The real non-canon as fuck stuff is the sequel, which is like random "lol what if alternate world where the sci-fi element is completely removed and we focus on shinji and kaworu being gay"
