>The 15-minute year-end mini episode aired as part of the New Year's Marathon beginning on Thursday, December 31st. Zombie is the hero we need, not the one we deserve. He does the hard work of timing and doing a first rough translation of an episode. Then it's passed onto others who do the final finishing touches. And for this is he given a reward? A special thanks? No, he's hunted and attacked and called mean names. but he can survive. He's tougher than that. He's the silent unsung hero of the GCCX translation community. We'd be nowhere without him.

I had no plans on releasing it into the wild, I'm not Zombie. I just wanted to see how "bad" a machine translation is. From what I've seen so far, it seems pretty damn legit. There's a few lines that it just doesn't know how to translate, but still pretty good otherwise.

ぜひみんなにツカって

>> No.7260728

>>7260123
I can't verify if those are actually correct without having seen the specific moments. While they're not totally wrong, all three can be interpreted in more than one way. I imagine you're smart enough to fix them if that were the case since...

>死んだ?
>Did you die?
Could also mean "Did I die?"

>阿部さん死にましたね
>I died Abe.
Could also mean "You died, Abe."

>嘘! 入れない!
>No! I'm not going in!
I would need the reading "入れない", depending on whether it was "hairenai" or "irenai" it could mean all sorts of different things. No way of knowing for sure without context. The first word 嘘 (uso) means "lie(s)" and is often used in a "No freaking way!", "Hell no!" or "WTF" kind of exclamation. But a simple "No!" gets the point across.

Yeah, the first two were when Arino walks off the edge of a cliff and the screen goes black. Abe asks the first line, and Arino responds with the second line. The third line is Arino struggling to get the underwater bulb to the exit before time runs out. I could have made it "Shit, I'm not going in!", but I figured a simple translation was better than one with too much emphasis.

>>7260814
It would probably create more work for Goose to redo all the translations than to start with a blank slate. Plus it might make them even less likely to work on EWJ subs, so I really don't wanna do that.

So unless the camera pans over and it shows no AV cable coming from the hole, then it's unplugged.

I think the most common example of loadword drift is how Japanese still use an older usage of "bitch" that's closer in meaning to "slut", while in modern English it's almost always used to either refer to a woman with a bad attitude or to call someone weaker than you. I asked the editor if that could be done. He said it would be a massive undertaking to do and maintain. He really only has time to keep the news and episode list promptly up to date and to answer emails, and his contacts are less reachable than him, especially since covid hit. He's been able to find some music pieces I've asked him about before, but a list of all music is probably not going to happen any time soon.

The youtube playlist in the miscellaneous stuff is from the SA translator who stopped maintaining it years ago because of how difficult it was to keep on top of it.

I assumed he wanted a list in English with links to listen to every piece of music like that old youtube playlist had. That's what I had asked the editor about.

Or you could just be accurate and require the viewer to educate themselves.
