There are very few mods for these old games, and I can't find any information online on how to mod them. It would be nice to just change a few lines of code to get fun and drastically different results. How hard is it to mod old SNES and Genesis games?

Not that hard.

>> No.7235042

It's trivial and SNES games have some of the most romhacks of any other system. You're searching for "mods" when the term in use is "romhack".

If you don't have a lot of technical know-how you're more at the mercy of the game's modding community and whatever tools are available for it already.
Sonic 1 and 2 are especially popular for romhacking and there's lots of dedicated guides, but the Sonic scene is kinda gross. Super Mario World was easy to customize with Lunar Magic.

You are too stupid to find easily available information, I highly doubt you will have either the intelligence or motivation to MAKE anything.

I agree. There are lots of perverts in the Sonic fan community, and even the ones who aren't perverted are really weird because they're always coming up with weird fan fiction involving the weird Sonic fan characters. I just really liked Sonic back when I was eleven and twelve between 2011 and 2013. I had lots of fun with the original games, especially.

That's a really fine beard you have, Anon. Everyone looks at you and says "That's a man" and you know it. When you finally join the Stunning And Brave 40%, your parents will be relieved. They mourned their son years ago and now the demon of his husk joins his spirit and drags him to hell where he belongs. They will bury you as a man, and in 40,000 years, societies that study how the Glorious American Empire started will find your bones, and conclude you were a man. You will be remembered forevermore as a man that loved Trump.

Cry more and fulfill your destiny. Die.

The Sonic fandom was autistic and perverted even then. Take it from an oldfag, the western Sonic fandom has been weird since the early days of the internet. Fans always sexualized the characters and there was always some overlap with the furry community.

Anyway, you're both way off the mark here since the Sonic rom hacking community =/= fanfic community. They're two sides of the same coin but with mostly different outlooks.

I was in the Sonic fandom back when Simon Wai and Jan Abaza were the big names, like 2000-2002. They've ALWAYS been like this. Until I was like fifteen I thought "furry" was the word for anthropomorphic animal characters in video games.

>> No.7236234

>>7236204
Exactly. My first exposure to the Sonic online fandom was even earlier than that, around 97 or 98, when Sonic newsgroups were still a thing and rat.org was just barely still around. And even back then people were drawing/writing smut of Sally Acorn, sometimes with furries from other cartoons for extra autism.

>> No.7236258

>>7236234
That's what I was saying, even when you focused on the hacking community and fans of the games rather than the universe, you got a crash course in furry autism just from incidental exposure.

Well I didn't get into the Simon Wai/Sonic CulT/Sonic Retro side of the fandom till later, but I'm just saying in my experience there isn't a lot overlap between those guys and, say, Chris-chan (to use the most extreme example of the other half of the fandon).

>> No.7236347

>>7236317
True, but you still just kind of pick those things up without the full picture.

Also I'm not sure chris-chan is a good sample of anything and kind of feel bad bringing him up all these years later.

I don't feel good about judging furries and degenerates and autistic fans in general, to be honest, so I try not to. I guess I just mentioned him since he's the most famous (and extreme) case.

Anyway OP, learn assembly and study other rom hacks. Something always in demand is J-E translations if you can find a weeb that speaks moon.

They’re called rom hacks and there are literally thousands of them. The idea isn’t niche or new, and several communities exist soley to share them and teach you how to code them.

The number of romhacks for Super Mario World alone likely rivals the total number of games for both the SNES and Genesis.

Have fun

Anon, I don't know what to tell you. I got exposed to all of that because I was a SatAM/Archie Sonic fan (still am), but I never became a furry and was still just as much a fan of the games, too. They weren't as all-corrupting as you might think.

The Spumco era most definitely did not. John K. would fight the execs at Nickelodeon to keep shit like that out of his cartoons. Which lead to Spumco being replaced by games Animation studios for the second half of the series run. So maybe in the later Bob Camp episodes there was some of it going on? I do not remember.
