So, what's the most beautiful /vr/ game for you? Not the best, not the most fun, but the one that is a true pleasure to look at and enjoy the effort of game designers and artists to make something aesthetically appealing. Spread the beauty.

It was Legend of Mana for me - the first game I got along my old PSX and it amazes me to this day how beautiful everything is (animations are a bit clunky though)

Unreal and Unreal Tournament. Both very, VERY beautiful looking games. Soundtrack is amazing too.

I have pretty much the same opinion you do. Off the top of my head I don't know a prettier game than LoM. I can understand the complaints some have of the overall gameplay elements and story structure, but since I enjoy them I can't really relate.

I highly recommend the Art of Mana if you really like LoM, even if you're not an artist. It's got art related stuff on all the Mana games, but the LoM section is especially fantastic.

It's hard to choose a single title. Maybe one for each retro console.

A bit too moe, but it's nice they found the exact ratio of complexity that the PS was able to manage without the whole thing moving like shit. Lots of good stuff like that in the later years of the system

As far as pixel art goes Kolibri and Knuckles Chaotix are among my favorites. The 32x was a piece of shit and honestly these games themselves aren't even good but they're gorgeous.
Some people don't like Chaotix's "throw all colors at the screen to show off the hardware" aesthetic but I think the game looks gorgeous.

As for 3D, Kirby 64 is the best looking retro game for me. Everything is silky smooth, the UI is incredibly soulful, and all the levels are these nice hand-designed environments.

I really really miss the environmental hazard aspect of these games.

Games rarely challenge players to be mindful of their movement these days and I think that is a loss, it creates such interesting level design choices.

Hear me out because this is a load most of you faggots can't swallow:

Namco Museum (Volume 3), specifically because of it's hub world.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vjf2VG1PSBY
(video doesn't do it quite enough justice, download the iso and play it yourself)

I nostalgiafag more for this silly compilation more-so than any other game, and it has influenced me creatively for 23 years. It is the most incredible, beautiful, and relaxing virtual library you will ever take a stroll through in both eyes and ears. It's entire presentation is ethereal and otherworldly. All the jagged edges and dithered warped textures of marble and stone of the world superimposed with bright namco imagery is magically strange. To the right kind of artfaggy anon, this is an experience. Without question this inspired that tranny vektroid.

Always loved the art style & gameplay of this game, but hated the ending and how it really doesn't connect to much of any of the stories of the game. Just feels like its a non-ending involving shit not brought up in the rest of the game. But it's been ages since I played.

>>7228976

The art style for these games were done well also. Very memorable. BoF3 was pretty high up too. Overall I'm a huge fanboy for Vanillaware though, so Odin Sphere (or really any of theirs) is my top pick.

I suppose because it's one of first games I owned it left a strong impression, but if you like this kind of shit you'll see what I mean. It's acid-washed ASMR and a moment in time.

Play it on CRT with original hardware or software rendered emulation and give it a taste if you can. It might not blow you away, but it might make you feel something.

I have the first volume and always liked the museum thing they did along with the unique areas they did for each game, plus the music playing in the museum was amazing. Was always disappointed they never continued this type of thing in subsequent Namco Museums.

I still like how the first Star Fox looks. I'm not sure if a screenshot can do it justice, because it feels different while actually playing it compared to looking at a still. But I especially liked seeing the animals as basic shapes and colors like this, just gave it a unique feeling that I haven't found very often in other games.
