yep, I had a Sega Saturn with Daytona. The game only runs at 20fps. It has massive pop-in. But, oddly the controls are perfect. I use to play this game all the time, despite the bad looking graphics.

Daytona USA Championship Circuit Edition was built using the Sega Rally game engine. Which is why the handling feels different, but the game runs at 30fps and has better draw distance than the first game. This one got mixed reviews back in the day. Some would complain about the handling not feeling like the arcade Daytona at all. While others thought it was a really good Saturn racing game in general. There is also a rare NetLink version which apparently makes the controls closer to the arcade game. It was also released on Windows 95.

It's the Japanese version of Circuit Edition that's improved. It has a better drawdistance and controls better. It still doesn't feel exactly like the arcade but it is way more playable than the original release. Also it allows you to assign the arcade version's music to any of the five tracks, much better than the remix crap they force you to listen to in the other versions.

The NetLink version, which was released for the US Saturn, only through Sega's own website. This game came out after the cancellation of the Saturn. It does contain all of the enhancements of the Japanese CE release along with two-player online through the Sega Saturn NetLink modem.

I wonder if it has something to do with Sega not willing to pay the singer of those tracks royalties? Daytona CCE NetLink Edition is post Saturn release that was never sold in retail stores. Only on Sega's website. But the ISO's are available. The Japanese Daytona USA CE is worth a look.

the Japanese Circuit Edition really is the best version of Daytona CCE. It has handling closer to the arcades, though still not the same. And the Saturn soundtrack, as well as improved draw distance. Daytona CCE was developed by AM3 as a response to the original Daytona Saturn release. As far as I know, they built this one using the Sega Rally Saturn engine (They developed the original Sega Rally and did the Saturn port). This is why the handling isn't the same in the Championship Circuit Edition release. But it was still a good game. But it did go through more tweaking.

>> No.7232641

>>7232592

This version does look good at 30fps, has less jarring pop-in, has two bonus race tracks that are good, it does have a different soundtrack, which does get some criticism. It also has some Richard Jacques remixes and CE fixes that with the Saturn music tracks. This version does also support the 3D gamepad and analog shoulder buttons. CE ads daytona-arcade like controls. Overall, I think this port looks a lot better than the buggy looking first release:
