RE4 is so overrated to me. Great gameplay, but has none of the atmosphere or charm of the earlier games in the series. Also, it drags on a little too long. By the time the game ends it becomes this tedious third person shooter. Remove the island section all together, introduce the regenorators earlier on, and you're golden.

If you started the island from the Regenerator lab, cut the crane segment, but kept the wrecking ball room and everything starting with Krauser the island would be fine.
it's the initial raid that feels tedious and like filler, everything once you're actually in the compound is pretty good.

I totally get hating on the remake for removing cut content, but for me it's so much fun on a base level to boot up every now and then and just burn through
the perfect dodge is great, parrying lickers is fucking hilarious, the game keeps a really solid momementum for the 5 hours you need to speed through out
it's just a very mechanically satisfying game, something I never really got out of RE games before the remakes

it is a complete sin that there is no S+ rank, there should be some incentive to play the hardest difficulties without the special weapons
final Nemesis becomes a true test of skill

REmake 3 is a straight line with an absurd amount of cut content which I consider essential to RE3. The expanded hospital was a nice touch, but NEST 2 (gigakek) in place of.the Dead Factory, no park/graveyard/comfyshed, no actual clock tower, no finding a lighter in a bar, no police station as Jill, no real run around the mean streets of RC, basically just run in a straight line from A to B and the city streets content was basically everything from the demo.

It's actually remarkable how awful REmake 3 is.

All of them were randomized shit honestly. I'd say the only good puzzles were the ABCD one, water sample, and the music box puzzle.
I'd also like to say, the branching "choices" in RE3 are massively overhyped. The pre-Dead Factory ones peak at the first use, a whole lot of the other ones are just "Escape Nemesis or get a Nemesis drop", with some really laughable ones like "Drop Down / Climb Up".
To add onto this, I've seen people get up in arms about the gravedigger being cut in RE:3, but he felt fucking out of place in the original. He's a blatant filler boss they added because they realized that if they ended the game at the clocktower, it'd be way too short.

Nearly every instance of backtracking is avoidable so long as you are keenly aware of holding onto key items until they're fully used up in their specific areas, with the only mandatory instances of backtracking being the blue medallion and the Square Valve -> Octo Valve.
The game expects you to be good enough at item management to not need an item box for long stretches of time, as, for example, there are only 3 item boxes in the first half of the game, 2 of which you will probably never go back to and one is situated dead center among the 3 major areas.
Also, in general you need to be good with ammo and herb stockpiling.

I finally beat ReMake this year and outside of the ending and the beginning I absolutely hated it. So boring. No challenge. The only fun I got was then playing it immediately after and cutting like 4 hours off my playtime—first playthru took like 8 hours. Don't listen to the other guy. The DS version has the absolute worst quality in regards to visuals, the FMVs being near incomprehensible blown up on a TV.
Just play the PC version. The Classic REbirth patch allows the following
>improved controls remapping
>ability to use gamepads
>fully uncensored FMVs
>turn on original Japanese
>180 turn
>tactical reload
And many more in addition to getting the old port to run flawlessly on modern PCs.
Just run the installer from the ISO, then dump the remaining contents of the disc to the BIOHAZARD folder on your hard drive, dump the .dll in there, and you're good to go.

Maybe they just don't like the game. On most systems it runs at 30FPS, door skipping requires a PC only mod, the game feels way slower than any classic title in the raw gameplay, and the gameplay itself has the least depth of any classic title since the original, and the original has the excuse of being arcadey fun.
Get over yourselves.

RE2 has the least depth other than RE1

>Lol, so you niggers cry about crimson heads all the time and managing your fuel
Nobody cried about that. In fact, that mechanic doesn't really require a lot of deep thought to circumvent. Just don't kill enemies. It's not that hard, especially since REmake gives you tools necessary to completely circumvent the system (Self-Defense items).
You don't even need to kill the zombies if you use the knife, and the knife has been made easier to use in REmake, as it no longer rebounds off walls, a mechanic in place since RE2 since the knife is a ridiculously good melee weapon when you take the time to learn it.
Resident Evil 2 has more depth than REmake. Dual slot weapons, taking time to fulfill optional zapping moments, exploring to find the weapon upgrades, being quiet to not get attacked by lickers, smartly taking out the t-103 to gain ammo, etc. This doesn't even go into rankings.
Resident Evil 3's dodge mechanic adds a whole new layer to the gameplay REmake simply doesn't have.
CVX vastly improves the knife at the cost of making the rebound far harsher and lowering the average amount of non-F. Aid Spray healing items. Additionally, it vastly lowers the amount of item boxes, and adds in more optional events that require weighing your options between backtracking or pushing forward, and it eventually evolves into taking on an additional boss or playing it safe and ignoring it. And yes, exploration IS a part of RE's gameplay depth, which is why CVX's final area, an item hunt which can be completed in any order you want, is one of the best sections in the series. This doesn't even go into how CVX's 3D elements plant seeds of really good ideas like first person weapons, environmental hazards (which REmake brought back for precisely one fight and it's worse than CVX's two uses of it), let alone other additions like the dual handed weapons, which are good room clearers but have no ammo pickups of any kind.
I could go on. REmake is weak.

The thing is it catches you exactly once. If you go in blind, you don't get a real good idea what all the business about kerosene and the canteen are, and you think its cool the zombies stay in place when they are dead because so often they just die.

Once you become aware of the Crimson Head mechanic and how to avoid it, it doesn't matter any more because you can just burn the bodies with the large amounts of kerosene available. It ends up disappointing in the long run because what should have been a random mechanic where you just don't know if that zombie is going to get up every game becomes just one more thing you plan for and avoid.

I like REmake but I think the original is far more enjoyable. Character and enemy movement feels faster, there's a greater number of enemies, some enemies have more health than REmake, and some enemies don't have windups to their attacks like in REmake.
I could go more in depth as far as gameplay differences, but I think it would be best to experience it yourself.
