I always thought this was interesting. It looks like someone did an official cover illustration, but they didn't properly use it. Instead they place it sticker-style behind some whimsical elements from the game.

I'm really fascinated by Japan's obsession with the Wizardry games, with all the countless Japanese spin-off games made in the series.

The Japanese Super Famicom version of the fifth game is also the only box art I've seen that somewhat resembles the box art of the first few games.

If you asked me in 2002 which one I thought was better I would give the cuck response of the right image, but as I have seasoned as a boomer, I have come to appreciate the gimmicky tasteless aesthetic of many Y2K game covers.

I actually think the JP cover is better. The illustration is composed in a more interesting way with the diagonal curve of the water surface and the individual elements pop out more due to the simpler rendering and colours that better distinguish each element.
