Penalize Boost more. I remember we had threads some time ago where some dude with the Quad-engine fatass pulled trial times out of this world by basically boosting continuosly.

Make the energy connectors actually dangerous like they were in the movie.

Add some kind of tuning mechanics, like NFSU2 had. It took long to have your ride properly set up, but then it was magical.

boost is already pretty penalized, if you don't upgrade cooling.
I think the upgrade system kind of prematurely fucked the balance of the game, since after you max everything out, the only differences in vehicles are top speed while boosting and how long a boost lasts before you overheat your engines.

But yeah I agree, the vehicles could have used more "character", so to say. But I found it pretty cool to be able to find a busted top tier part for small money and have it repaired over the next race or two and have a brand new top spec module for a fraction of its msrp. I have no take in this argument but I'd like to say that HS on PS1 definitely runs worse than I remember and the console can barely handle it. Thought it was an emu thing but I've got a physical copy spun up in my PS1 here and man does it chug hard, noticeably so even with an old CRT hiding the stutter a bit.
