It's not a RPG it's a Beat Them Up

>> No.7200000

Yeah, I've always felt the same. It's a hack and slash with RPG mechanics.

>This board is for the discussion of classic, or "retro" games, including consoles, computer games, arcade games (including pinball) and any other forms of video games. Retro gaming means platforms launched in 2001 and earlier, and official game titles for those platforms released no later than December 2007 (homebrew console games made after this date will be permitted). The Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Game Boy Advance, and Sony PlayStation 2 will now be considered "retro".

It’s yet another game that didn’t understand FFVII, like every game that involved elements of FFVII after the original in 1997

Isn't the proper term an Action Role-Playing Game?
That is it's an action game with some role-playing elements such as player stat levels and shit
As opposed to a role-playing game with action elements such as Ultima Underworld

>> No.7200607

I'm more offended at the phrase "Beat them up" than anything else in this dumb thread.

It's weird. When I was a teenager I could only appreciate it for the FF part of the universe, but the Disney stuff was cringe to me at that phase. As an adult it should be easier to consume both, but the dialogue and story will be rougher for sure. I think 1 should hold up well. 2 is when it gets chronicles of ridic.(also the GBA game in between but most people don't play it, but it was great)

Yeah, I can agree with that. I feel like 1 didn't really know what it wanted to be so it ended up feeling a little bit janky, but 2 went all in on being a brawler and focused on making movement and comboing as satisfying as possible, which made it infinitely more fun
