2 and 9 tie for my favorites. 2nd favorite is tied with 4 and 7. I like every classic MM game to some extent, except for R&F2. That is the only one I'd say is actually bad. Even GB's version of MM2 was enjoyable to me, despite its music.

And yeah i am ranking 2 that low because i do understand the game's positives but i cannot stand the game's level design, despite 4-6 being rehashes, they at least had some micro changes that improved the gameplay and they had decently great level designs and WAY better music in my opinion. And i'm also ranking the gameboy megamans because they did have different level designs and in the case of IV and V, they are full with a lot of content, IV is really sizeable in content despite re-used robot masters and it has the best original tracks out of all the gameboy megaman games.

I find the robots masters ideas and design really silly, the BGMs are on the weak side of the series, the gameplay feels a little slower than 3 and 2 (easier) and... the charge shot. Terribly weak, basically useless

All robot masters are silly. Yes, 2 has classic tunes that are rightfully considered the best in the series. But 4's soundtrack is consistently great, with many outstanding tracks. 4 is easier than 2 in a good way. Which is to say that 2 goes from way too easy to infuriatingly hard in the Wily Stages, whereas 4 is pretty consistent throughout. I've never heard the complaint about charge shot being too weak, most complain about it being too strong.
Also, graphically 4 is a huge step up and sets the new standard for the series (5 and 6 are also much better looking than the first 3 games).

yeah, i definitely agree it's dangerous, but who knows what they could've come up with.
i guess it would have had to have taken a bigger graphical and stylistic shift to make it really worth it to change his look, though. the graphical quality only really inched forward with every game, so a sudden overhaul of megaman's appearance would have been really weird.

They really wouldn't have much room for improvement for MM's sprite on NES.
He already uses 8-9 sprites per frame, which alone is enough that it requires sprite flickering when a couple of small enemies are on the same axis; and they're already using 2 palette slots out of 4 for him.
The PPU is usually already filled to the brim with MM as he is, so making him more detailed would mean making a consession somewhere else, like less different types of enemies at once in a given scroll.

Something like the way Bass looks in MM10 would have never been done on actual NES. Too many goddamn sprites.
Just getting Protoman to work in MM5 was a nightmare, and he "only" has 1-2 more sprites per frame than MM. And, I only got it to work because MM5 uses a dynamic tile loading system, which "automatically" loads the correct tileset for any given frame, to go around the PPU storage limits; something which no other MM game does on NES.

Another concession would have been made with the type of moves MM has. But instead of making the character more detailed, they decided to add more frames like the sliding or the 360° animation in MM5.

The reason you can't slide with the suits in MM6 is because the suits take up more sprites. Not enough space for suit+slide.

There are plenty of hacks which make MM games better. Lag reduction patches, bug fixes, etc

For MM3, there is "Improvement" which gets rid of all lag, fixes a lot of glitches, and also has some other additions/changes which you may or may not like

You do realize that Capcom held a robot master design contest for this game, right? They were literally crowdsourced from Japanese children. Pic related was the prize for the 8 winners. I saw one of the carts on sale in Akihabara once, and it was valued at around 500000 yen.
