Do you look up a walkthrough before playing to get the best upgrades, or go blindly knowing that you will get destroyed? When you finally master each part of the game, do you just leave it at that or do you do high score or time attack runs for an extra challenge?
>am normally trash at games
>but pic related is surprisingly easy once you understand it
>It really never requires reflexes (except for the one part in stage 3-2 with the cavemen dropping from the sky) and the inputs per minute is very low compared to say Mega Man X2
>had fun getting wrecked and somehow reaching the end of stage 7, but the weapon you need for the second run was boring so I looked up a video showing all the chests, got golden armour and plowed through the game and made it my bitch, one of my favourite moments of gaming in recent memory

SGnG is not a hard game. You don't need a guide to play it.

Use this hack btw.

I go in blind on my first playthrough. If I replay the game, I'll check online to see if there's anything I missed the first time around.

Just play everything blind, if you get stuck ask for advice or look up a guide. What the fuck is so complicated about it.

mmx1 is seriously unfun if you dont know the correct order for instance. and in my first playthrough of sgng i had no idea how chests worked or how to get upgraded armour consistently

apart from looking at a basic breakdown of the games plots and some screenshots to get an idea how it plays/looks I almost always go in blind.
Some of my favorite playthrus of games were going in blind and having no clue and learning as I went (phantasie I on c64 is an example).

Once I beat games tho I start hacking and cheating and breaking the games just to see whats possible with it.

There are literally dozens of different types of games and dozens of types with each type and each potentially is best approached differently. Your question reeks of zoom.

I'm not good enough at video games to "master" anything. Beating on normal difficulty is enough for me. If a game is fun but a little easy, I'll settle with beating it on hard or beating on one continue.

Depends. If it's an oldass RPG then yes, since most of those had additional documentation to help you play the game and in some cases were required to play them. Anything else I just try and git gud until I win or give up.

Did you play the NTSC version on professional difficulty? Shit is so much harder, so many extra enemies you get some welcome added slowdown

to anyone new to this game, there's a patch called "super arthur" that lets you switch weapons at will and makes each tier of armour give you extra hits (like how fire mario turns into big mario). it's still difficult, especially if you dont look up where the chests are (you find them by being on a certain position on the stage, finding multiple without getting hit nets you the golden armour)

With the majority of games using a guide takes away a lot of the fun discovery. Why are you even going to play the game if you aren't going to go on the journey yourself?

As for playing for score some games have better scoring systems then others. Many are crap where scoring just means "don't die and find the milking spots" and then there are ones that have complex systems that completly change the route like Ikaruga or Hard Corps Uprising

>> No.7192709

Don't go in blindly, but don't look at a guide either. Read the manual first, most games were built with that in mind.

I usually play as blind as possible but if I get stuck I'll look up a walk through just to point me in the right direction then go blind again. I found when I'd follow a walk through the whole way I wouldn't have fun so I think this is a good balance for me at least

I played a lot of the snes games i have under my belt when I was like 11-14, so I would just give myself reasonable save states to save a bit of time (a save state at the start of each level)

these days I just play everything blind and use in game saves if the game has them.
If the game doesnt have a save I'll still save state to quit the game and play later.

nearly half the joy of a video game is picking up the controller and interacting with the novelty of whats going on with the screen....

Enjoy it how you want, but I seriously don't get those that neeeeeed to read a/the guide or a walkthru just because they are afraid of missing something.
