Its a good console, but "highest ranking console of all time" is a bit of a stretch. It's my favorite but even I know it fucked nintendo over a lot and made them lose big companies like square. It was objectively their biggest failure (console wise) until the wii u came along.

I dunno if GOAT, but it's one of my favorites along with MD, SNES, Saturn and NES.
It does live rent free inside some people's heads too, so yeah it's a good console.

I mean it is top tier for local multiplayer, but I personally prefer the ps1. The N64 has some truly awesome titles, but the PS1 just appeals more to me. My favorite N64 games are Mischief Makers, Conker's Bad Fur Day (this would not be on here without the multiplayer), Super Mario 64, OoT, MM, Banjo Kazooie, and Sin and Punishment.

I guess I like the PS1 better because it has more games that I vibe with. I like RPGs, I am a whore for PS1 sprites, and I like shmups.DESU liking any of the 5th gen systems is valid af, Saturn ain't half bad either.

It has good games but it's not a good console. Its library is very unbalanced.

It has the games it needed and no more and no less. Very few consoles were the publisher got the critical releases it needed right to stay constantly positive in reputation. 64 was in the exact place where if even one of it's critical apps came out a bomb would have been disastrous, but each one from Rare and Nintendo came out Good at worst and the system managed to hold out despite its weaknesses.

I always believed that too but all the next generations of Nintendo consoles proved that the previous one doesn't matter. Wii was the clear generation winner coming off the weak GameCube. Wii U was an unmitigated disaster following their best selling console ever. Switch absolutely bodies everyone else.

the list goes on and on... every major game on the N64 is an all time classic. The "best" games on PS1 are generally pretty shit and outdated. Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid literally aren't even good games. Tomb Raider is better on PC. What's left? Resident Evil, which is also on N64? PS1 is a joke, and I grew up with one. I would always be jealous going to my friends houses who had n64s and playing goldeneye splitscreen or taking turns on Mario 64. I remember playing Jet Force Gemini co-op with a buddy for a whole week one summer. The only good thing about the PS1 was Crash Bandicoot. Three crash games, CTR, and Crash Bash. That's it. Everything else sucked and was worse then the N64 in every way imaginable.
