The cleanliness of doom-linedeffing is what makes 3D-mapmaking feel a little incomprehensible after a while. This is one of the largest maps I have made for Quake 2 in terms of floorspace, and even though I kept it relatively simple it still looks like this from above.

Playthrough video of map30 of 1994 tune-up community project is up. This map is not for my skill level, so it took me 67 attempts to beat with no saves. Had to memorize the UV-max speedrun route, and at 15+ attempts the movements became almost automatic. At last, I am done with this megawad, and I have to say that I had a blast playing it despite some underwhelming maps near the middle and the end.

IMO, playing on skill 1 is kinda pointless, as it's just skill 2 with half player damage and double ammo. Only really useful for wads that didn't bother implementing skill levels in the first place.

Very slowly progressing with the melee weapon. Had to structure it very differently compared to other weapons, with visuals completely detached from weapon logic. The hardest parts will be getting windup animations look smooth and to handle the blade angle nicely.

In DB2/GZDB/UDB you can see the tag/script relations if you mouse over the linedef/sector, and had you been able to display them all at once, you'd be getting a similar picture as well

I got the Quake files from the pastebin. The FAQ warns about texture filtering being shit, but the zip already comes with an autoexec file, with pre-set values.

This is what's written in it:

gl_texturemode 3 is what you want. Nightmare vs Hard is very contentious. Nightmare makes enforcers and grunts more dangerous, Hard makes ogres more or less dangerous. It really depends on how bad of a player you are. Go with Nightmare. Quake isn't a difficult game to begin with for any video game veteran.

Hard and NM have the same enemy amounts and damage, but Nightmare turns up the aggro on monsters and some pain states or something. I hear it's debated amoung oldfags if Nightmare is actually more difficult than Hard, since the increased aggro makes monsters really predictible. Ogres, for example, will pretty much never go for a melee hit and just spam grenades unless you get right up into their face, which means you can treat'em like much weaker Cyberdemons and just dodge left to right.
As a newfag myself, I personally found Nightmare harder, so pick that if you want a max challenge in my opinion.

I would say hard so that you can just blast through it and have fun. If you really like some sections you can grind them on nightmare. I'd recommend continuous playthrough instead of shotgun starts as well, as a lot of levels were not designed for shotgun starts

Seems I stumbled upon a piece of some kind of series but am not terribly impressed. Small number of monsters comes at you one by one with only inspired moment being a dash for SSG in the beginning. Being low on ammo I died trying to run past barons of hell and I have no interest in trying again.
