wait, they translated the JP version?
i know that JP has the best ost and PAL is the one with less glitches but 50hz

>> No.7154529

>>7154284
no.
the mod does NOT translate the Japanese version.
but it doesn't matter, everything you need to be able to read in the menus to play the game is in English already anyway.
the mod only fixes bugs, and adds cut cars/colors/liveries/region specific cars/brands.
you can apply it to JP, US, or EU versions. just pick the correct mod file for your version.
the reason I applied it to the JP version is because:
>1.the JP soundtrack is 100x better than the licensed songs on the US and EU version
>2. also the Honda NSX/Integra Type R's are sold at Honda in the JP version, but this mod also adds the Acura dealership like on the US version

if you apply the mod to the US version, it will unlock the Honda NSX's and Integras, but they will not be sold in the main Honda dealership section like on JP, instead they are sold under the "Special Cars" menu.

>> No.7154537

>>7154268
the ONLY downside to this mod is if you apply it, you will no longer be able to trade cars from other normal, unmodded saves of the game. meaning, the DexDrive saves hosted on Gamefaqs will not work on your modded game.

other than that, it makes everything about the game better.

>must use the S2000 provided in Arcade Mode >no using a "stock" S2000 from your Simulation mode garage because you could have secretly modded it

1. video shows selecting the car in the menu. only the S2000 provided in Arcade mode, NOT a S2000 imported from Simulation mode.
2. you are allowed to choose AT or MT, but ONLY Racing handling mode. (not drift)
3. 1st lap is warmup lap, any corner cutting or wallriding on this lap = disqualified
3. 2nd lap is the timed lap, again, no corner-cutting or wallriding
4. video is continuous from car select to the end of the second lap (no savestates on emulators)

>> No.7159689

>>7159673
I had no issues downshifting while going into corners, with or without brake. The car remains fairly stable as long as corner entry speed is appropriate.
The sharp right hander after the first tunnel is a good example, as it requires you to brake earlier than you expect in order to get a smooth angle. Enter it too fast and you're going to go sideways which kills your exit speed.
The left hander at the exit of tunnel 1 into tunnel 2 is another example, where you actually need to lift off as you enter the corner to get a smooth run before putting the power back on and exiting fast to carry that speed all the way down the straight

also with PCSX2, I have a config setting just for Gran Turismo 4/3/Tourist Trophy. if I try to play other games on that config setting, it might not be playable.
>I even have a separate setting for the GT4 License tests, because the emulator crashes if I use my normal GT4 gameplay config to do the license tests
whereas with ePSXe, I don't have to fuck with settings at all and it works for any game.

>medna - output like PS(3xx by 2xx res limit etc), then image can get filtered after - gives original can't see shit Cap'n effect
>PGXP - "upgraded PS hardware" can fix graphics handling - Clearer beyond tinkering, kind of cheating if you can see better than others
>other - filters internally or some shit, then can output "larger" than PS - Tinkering effect, slight improvement over original
Maybe PGXP shouldn't be an option for playing against others.

People who speedrun don't have to give a shit about graphics, those emulators are there for things like timing. One emu could give 3min for inputs, while a more accurate one or PS hardware would give 3:20. I don't know the details about ePSXe(+GT2), but times or whatever could differ from the original, along how well your inputs can be detected.

>> No.7162117

Also about the input thing, original hardware can drop inputs at times while an emu might not, so that's another thing along with others that could get listed.

>> No.7162159

timing variance is also a thing for official hardware
time on super game boy(one) for 100secs = ~96, so people kind of input faster
super game boy two is accurate, so speedrun fags would recalculate any submitted times using v1 hardware

question:
for example, say Anon got a lap time of 1.43 using a stock S2000 on Trial Mountain in Gran Turismo 2.
if you're going by the lap times in-game, wouldn't the lap time shown in-game be the same no matter if you're playing on whatever emulator, or the original hardware? isn't the timing in the game the same, regardless if it was actually 1 minute and 43 seconds in real time?
how much are we gonna scrutinize this lap times beyond "don't wallride, don't cut corners"? and beyond what you're playing the game on, does PAL vs NTSC vs NTSC-J make a difference? how autistic are we gonna get?

Eh I want the entry to the game to be as accessible as possible and rage racer is sloooow early on and you need to play a fair bit to get anything fast. RR (and RRR) get top speed simply by picking the advanced tracks so for what is essentially a fun little competition they are very plug and play as it were. I prefer RR over RRR simply because the track is less technical which should promote more anons to engage rather than having to seriously learn the game.

>already having to dumb it down because average vr is a non playing collector
Sure but realistically expecting someone to invest a lot of hours (say 10+) into a game they might not have ever played before for a casual little league is excessive. That is why gran turismo is a hard sell for this sort of thing as GT - like 99% of racing vidya - best played at the highest speed classes and the time investment to reach that is non trivial.

Sharp, to the point and accessible games should be the initial focus so player skill can be the defining factor in short order. I'm not expecting anon(s) to equal the skillset of those who have been playing for 20 years but having gap that looks insurmountable does not encourage engagement.

I'm just....lets say influenced by arcade racers over sims due to playing in arcades and the early games that embraced 3D in the console space rather than the more sim inspired roots the PC gaming scene fostered. Put it this way i'm more cruisin' USA than newman haas racing.

We've almost reached 500, we should decide officially on a game/track/vehicle for the next competition. Along with some rules.

I think that we should all have video of our best time.

The drifty nature makes wipeout 2097 a bitch to learn compared to the other entries in the series. Not as tight as 1 & 3 but distinctly different pulse/pure and beyond.

Duckstation is one of those true bedroom amateur hour efforts that will one day be cool but is walking in the shadow of giants. Can't knock it but it is neither as feature rich as beetle psx or as accurate as that jap emulator (xebra? I forget).
