half life is a shit quake 2 mod with terrible mechanics, it's really simply plagiarism and wouldn't exist without John Carmack. The only difference between it and quake 2, apart from worse performance and uglier graphics, is the brighter scenery which is a subjective frame that appeals to the broader, more feminized masses. Yes instead of elaborate levels you have corridors with an occasional branching path/secret, instead of dynamic problem solving that comes with navigating the levels you have some braindead "puzzles" and awkward platforming usually ones designed around you savescumming, instead of well made and balanced higher difficulty modes you get an HP buff. I hated doom 3 on my first playthrough and then I loaded a survival horror mod (that I'm forever upset that I forgot the name of and lost on an old harddrive) that really limited ammo but made all of the weapons and enemies stronger/perform better. Way better experience to have a shotgun that works from > 3 m away but only 15-30 shells vs. sticking it up an imps nose and carrying 320. The ammo counts made the least sense to me in this game, this is a game that has monster counts in the low double digits and lets you carry 600 machinegun rounds, 320 shells, 450 cells, what were they thinking. That was why hell was the most interesting map, you suddenly have no ammo again and actually have to think about how to approach a situation instead of just steamrolling through as a walking armory.

Half Like 1 is overrated. Its a game that's only praised for being the first to do certain things but its not amazing. It was just a pioneer of certain technology.
