Drowned God was released on October 31, 1996 for the Windows 95 operating system.[2][10] Around the same time there was going to be a release for Windows 3.1 but those plans were cancelled.[15] In its first two weeks, it sold 34,000 copies in the United States.[12] It was one of the top ten best-selling video games in United States during the first month after its release, but bugs and poor support from the developers caused it to fall out of favor with gamers by December.[16] By February 1998, the game had sold over 60,000 copies.[12] Around the time of the game's release, Horse stated that its story was incomplete, and that the rest of the story would be revealed in a sequel called CULT,[3] planned to center around Area 51.[12] However, he killed himself, as well as his wife and pets, a decade after the game's release,[17] and no sequel was ever completed.

What's also wild is that there's a dude who had been interviewing him by email, and Steve would just fucking disappear for years at a time. Every time he would come back, he'd email his next response to the dude's questions like nothing had happened, not even acknowledging that he hadn't responded for all that time. The guy pieced together that every time Steve disappeared, it was because he was serving time for CP. Fuckin shameless.

Up until then it's full of funny characters and a baller OST but once you enter the Lodge it just becomes a shitty 2D platfomer with timed puzzles. TES Arena and TES Daggerfall were both heavily based on Ultima Underworld and its sequel UU2. The main difference being that UU1/2 are set in a single (or in UU2's case a series) dungeon. Rather than having an overworld and towns to explore.

UU didn't just inspire TES, its engine was later used to make System Shock and it later inspired other games like Thief and Deus Ex. The main thing was its level of environmental interaction which was unparalleled at the time.

Another game that plays very similarly is Arx Fatalis, which released the same year as Morrowind. It was developed with the intent of being UU3 but they couldn't get the license to it, so they made it its own IP instead.

really wish this dude did more stuff, can't find anything else he did under his name.
hot take: i think dreamweb is the best cyberpunk game. it's got so many fucking janky problems and it's weird tedious bullshit at several hundred points (all that computer stuff) but for the short time it lasts it's great.
i think if it was just tuned up a bit more (maybe even longer?) it could've been a masterpiece. i dunno, might be a shit take, but i could get into the atmosphere of dreamweb immediately but couldn't even get into deus ex when it was released, so who knows
