My problem with pokemon is that whenever I'd start a game, I'd want to catch every single pokemon and have the most optimal team possible. Despite being a noob. I'd end up spending more time reaserching the game than actually playing it. Watcha gotta do is pick cool pokemon as you see them, personify them to make you care even if the storie is shit, grind minimally and move from town to town at a brisk clip. I still don't like pokemon but I at least beat one of the games this way.

Gen 1 imo is one of the least polished in the series, especially in that regard. maybe im just retarded but i get lost easily. In terms of story, it really doesnt matter which game you start with, so if you really want gameboy, go with gen 2 (Gold/Silver/Crystal).

This. I rarely say that a remake makes the original obsolete, but in the case of FRLG it really does. It's just a modernized version of RBY with better graphics, soundtrack, and bug fixes. It doesn't change what made the original good (to whatever extent it could be considered good in the first place) but it's infinitely more palatable to modern tastes.

I disagree on both counts. I fucking hate the GBA's audio and the washed-out colors the gen 3 games had to have due to the game's dark-ass screen. I find it overall uglier than the damn monochrome gameboy pixel.
