No, objectively not, but it's still an interesting experience. Most kids' experience with this game was of walking around a surreal dreamy springfield while entering weird mini-games with Bartman and Bartzilla. It's like there's some bits of this game that have a lot of soul and isolated can be kind of a fun experience for a bit but as a whole the game is a mess.
I think it's an interesting piece of media from a bygone time when Simpsons were at their peak of popularity and Bart Simpson was every kid's role model.
Similarly, Bart vs Space Mutants has some really good ideas (particularly the first level), but as a whole the game is still a mess.
The only good Simpsons game is the arcade one made by Konami, which also includes a lot of soul and early simpsons weirdness.

Not retro, but what about Simpsons Hit & Run? I'd say that's one of the best Simpsons games alongside the Arcade.

It's past Simpson's prime, and honestly just comes off as a GTA clone with a simpsons skin. I know it may be a cliche critique to the game, but it's true.
Bart's Nightmare is a total mess, but it's unique.

Me neither, I just enjoyed being able to destroy some shit as Bartzilla but never even got to the building climbing part. I think part of it is because I only rented this game and it didn't come with the manual, and the visual cues are confusing as shit, you can't easily tell when your attacks are being efficient, or when you're being hit.
The real stinker, however, was the indiana bart level. Bartzilla was fun as a kid only because you could sort of control Bartzilla. If they made a Bartzilla game it would have been a huge hit back then.... or probably just another shovelware, but I sure would have rented it.

I remember renting Bart Vs The World multiple times as a kid. It's shit, but I still like it for some reason. It has some trivia questions that were really only relevant in the first couple of seasons of the show, and brings back memories of how cool I felt wearing my Bart Simpson shirt at school.

The arcade game was one of the biggest quarter magnets for me growing up, and always wished for a home version of that game. Feels like some Mandela effect thing because I never knew pic related existed till finding it at a thrift store for $2 a few years back

Yeah, too bad that port is trash.
Never getting a proper port of it for SNES and Mega Drive is a crime against humanity.

I remember randomly running across the Virtual Bart ROM and playing it for a few hours to kill time. Never before have I been so thankful for save states. That shit is difficult in all the worst ways.

I think everyone who played the arcade version back in the day wanted a console port of it, can only imagine it wasn't done due to some licensing rights issue for the Simpsons on consoles, but I don't know. I'm sure the PC ports are terrible but the DOS version seems to be a little more faithful than the C64 version, from what I've gleaned from a couple Youtube vids on the game.

>> No.7123436

>>7123392
Yeah it probably was licensing issues, probably Acclaim got all the rights to publish Simpsons on consoles.
The DOS port looks a bit decent (only a bit), but it plays abysmal. It wasn't developed by Konami, and likely the 2 guys who coded that in some basement didn't have the source code, or any help from Konami at all.
