hey

I use an old Thinkpad and i'd like to load up some games on it. So since it's fairly old, most of what i can run will be /vr/.

Does anyone have any good suggestions? Preferably with little to no mouse requirement since I am generally just using my clitmouse.

Games I already know about and love:

>DOOM
>D2
>Nethack
>Dorf fort
>SMAC/SMAX
>Oolite
> console emulation, but i usually only play super mario world
>RapeLay

Anyone have some suggestions for me?

I also have an old 2007 vista laptop and they don't run fine. SNES isn't playable unless you run at 1 frame skipped and you can't have vsync. PSX games have wonky graphics sometimes, but maybe you've got better specs than I do. Integrated graphics and 1.80 gz cpu is always stuttering my games.

I can't make out what exact model you're running, but it looks like an x220 or x230 of some description, and I was able to play the Linux port of Borderlands 2 on my x230t at around 20fps native resolution a few years ago. It took some heavy graphical tweaks to do it, and the Windows version would probably run better, but I was still able to play it. Apparently a friend of mine has even managed to play the Enhanced version of BL1 on his machine, which has the same CPU and GPU (i5 3320m with Intel HD 4000 graphics). I also used to play the living crap out of Battle For Wesnoth on that machine, which is like a hybrid of Fire Emblem and the old turn-based Warlords games.

Pic related (Touhou) probably works too, but I still need to try it.

>>7097530
What emulator are you using? I used to run most games in ZSNES 1.36 perfectly on my 700MHz Pentium III, and could even run most titles on the various Pentium I and II machines I tried it on. I also had some old version of SNES9X I used later on, I think a release from 2005, that I was able to use to play StarFox 2 on my friend's 800MHz Pentium III laptop as well as my 2.4GHz Pentium 4. These emulators certainly aren't as accurate as Higan or BSNES, but they're more than good enough for playing the majority of the SNES library on ancient hardware.

Of course, given that you're running Vista on there, I would highly, highly recommend downgrading to XP SP3 or at the very least dual-booting. Vista was often shipped on systems that were way too underpowered for it at its time, which is partly what lead to its reputation. I wouldn't run it on anything less than a system with a strong dual core and 4GB of RAM, as well as an actual GPU and not the crippled Intel integrated graphics that existed at the time.

Maybe I'm a masochist, but I find trackpoints work surprisingly well for FPS games. Granted, the last time I tried playing UT99 with one, I didn't do so hot, but I've played tons of Doom I/II, Quake II, Duke3D, Borderlands, and even TF2 among others using one. With the exception of Borderlands, which I'd say is pushing it, all ran well on my x230t.

Zombie Shooter and Alien Shooter series, Crimsonland (the original release, not the remake, also unplayable with the clitmouse), Nwahwind, Outcast, Delta Force series, Driver: You Are The Wheelman, Jedi Knight 1 and 2 (needs a real mouse), Test Drive 4-6, Viper Racing, Carmageddon, Soldiers of Fortune, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Baldurs Gate 2, Fallout 2, the list goes on.

I'm not doubting the strength of Genesis emus, but to play SNES games on emu perfectly just like in real hardware, you will need a gaming PC strength CPU with byuu's furry-endorsed emu, NOT Snes9x which is known to be buggy and built with hacks to make most known games run well enough.

The darkest black was red and the spinning of the battles didn't work and it would lag as the battle first started. The city of the ancients glitch caused me to switch between epsxe and psxeven to get past such a glitch.

I remember the Lunar Legends port to the snes working so bad in a town for an snes emulator I had on it that every 5 through 8 seconds it would stop and get a broken record glitch where it'd go and repeat the last 1/5 second for six times or so. Every single 5-8 seconds.

I don't recall if I even attempted to play the n64 on it but beating the two Zelda games on it was a goal of mine, and I do remember playing visualboyadvance on it and The Minish Cap played to completion, of which is funny because winxp and android emulators often reset to the start screen in Vaati's castle.

I remember giving it a driver so it could communicate with my hacked phat psp back then so I could hack it and also bring back and forth data from a library using the psp as a mobile emulator, video streamer/downloader, and pda really in general for music and for it's file managing capabilities combined with free Internet to be stolen using various public wifi's. Both I received used, the phat and the win9x. The win9x was a hand me down from a library's youth room. The phat psp I had to buy twice as the first was damaged. Before that the library sold 50 cent cd-roms and I would bring data back with that from the library strictly, of which is how I downloaded ff7 to begin with I recall, the net was so sloooow that I had to download ff7 in pieces using dohgames then combined the files later using some 7-zip feature that I had installed on the win98 computer.

Fag.

May I interest you with some turn-based tactics game such as Battle for Wesnoth, or perhaps Jagged Alliance 2, with all its community modding goodness? I game on a T520 so we're not that too far off.

I get 20 gb per month with my carrier and prefer to use no less than 1gb a day on tv shows.

Size matters.

Also most of my drives as a forever-neet are no bigger than 64 gb. Most are 16 gb.

Anyone here want to tell me why my Toshiba Satellite with Windows XP routinely lags every time a sound effect plays in Age of Empires? Could it be the missing AHCI drivers and having to set compatibility mode in the BIOS to get around that?

Doom I and II were played on keyboard only originally. If you happened to have a mouse, it would be used to move the character around, not to mouselook.
So try them that way, it's pretty cool. Also Blackthorne.

There are good classic freeware games that even qualify as retro now and run on potatoes
I still play a lot of RecWar and Spheres of Chaos
Also, Hedgewars is an open source version of Worms
There were the Retrospec remakes of Head over Heels and the isometric Batman game.
You can play most 90's FPS on keyboard relatively well, Duke, Quake, Blood, Shadow Warrior, even Half Life and Unreal, if you find the correct layout for you.
Also, there are so many good emulation games, you're missing out.

Assuming you are on windows, Demonstar is the best made for pc shmup in olden times. Successor to raptor, but much better imo without the tacky rpg elements.

You can download the shareware versions of demonstar and its mission packs here.

https://www.mking.com/

Full version you can buy or torrent, up to you.

Actually I've not left mommies basement yet as I have no transport to a nicer area, are on hypertension meds, and my pic related kit is only 95ish percent complete. Or a hypertension med anyway. I'd like to drop enough weight to stop possibly if it's not kidney disease, of which hypertension leads to, kidney disease. Anyway. If not for that I'd be gone.

Perhaps I can replace my ace inhibitor, of which ironically is harming the kidneys I gather while I try to protect them, with hawthorn berries or something, but growing a tree for that would take forever. And where?

honorary retro game. the engine (voxlap) was made by the dev of the Blood/DN3D engine (Build).

>> No.7122626

It's compact, has many buttons, looks cool, came with a protective case big enough for a phone plus cord and sd cards to fit inside, and works with both wired old computers and bluetooth.

It's d-pad isn't flawed, that's what matters to /vr/. Real /vr/ anyway. Though yes, the analog are gay, and it has no handles that were designed with analog in mind. I prefer stuff like Megaman Legends with the d-pad. I even like n64 games with the d-pad except when crossing bridges and such.

There is nothing wrong with that controller. It fits inside small spaces and that's a camping kit. A logitech wouldn't fit inside so easily and the bag is already so overpacked I've had to resort to using a second bag.
