Sure do, it's the best Eva video game.
By the way pic related is a somewhat underrated experience. Not a game per-se but it's, as the title suggests, a digital card collection, there are mini-games you have to play in order to add cards to your folders though. Some of the mini-games are Eva CD-ROM for windows-tier mini-games, very simple stuff, but some others are more interesting and fun, the magma diver one is my favorite.
Recommended for Eva fans, also has some exclusive bonus content that I don't think was ever published or released anywhere else outside this game.

Ironically it's also a really cool mission on the N64 game too. An angel battle that's better in video game form than in the actual series.

I emulated it. The quality varies greatly between battles. Some are essentially minigames with no depth. Unless you're an eva fan it's 3/10

I'd give it some slack, despite the disparity between missions, and the fact the game doesn't really offer anything too deep in terms of gameplay mechanics is balanced by being one of the most impressive looking 5th gen games, so there's that.
But yeah it's a game that I wouldn't recommend to anyone that isn't an Eva fan. It's still a playable game and has a "pick up and play" nature.

I can see how it would be a fun mission, but in the show it's the worst example of a "monster of the week" filler episode that doesn't advance the story at all.

Does the game just follow the plot of the anime, or does it add any extra background/story at all?

>> No.7113053 [DELETED]

>>7113041
Don't think it adds anything extra, but the fight itself is more interesting due to having to track down the angel swimming around you and counterattacking as he appears.
If anything, it has a 3D model of Sandalphon on the gallery mode which is nice since you can't really see shit on the TV episode.

It doesn't really add any extra information from what you see on the TV series, and the game follows the events of the show very faithfully, although you can make some things come out differently, for example: you can beat Sachiel without going berserk, you can avoid getting Unit 01's arm shopped during the battle with Zeruel, etc, but as far as story goes it's all the exact same up until the very final mission, where Shinji takes on all 9 Eva series, although 3rd impact still happens somehow, but ends the same way as EoE, with Shinji and Asuka on the beach, except... Shinji doesn't choke her, and instead they seem to be happy to see each other, a sort of happy EoE ending, while still being apocalyptic.

I find that the hardest levels are the ones that require QTEs or aiming, especially the Zeruel battle and the Lance of Longinus mission. And I'm playing on real hardware, I imagine on emulator it's a nightmare to aim that, I know a lot of people who emulate get filtered there.
For the 1 on 1 battle missions, it's all about breaking the angel's AT Field first (button mashing, it's not real so much mindless mashing as it is more of getting the timing down and not fucking up the sequence of pressing one button after the other consecutively and as fast as you can), when the angel's AT Field is broken, you want to grab them and throw them afar, although you can also make some chip damage by hitting them with the knife, but the fast way is to throw them away, then when the camera centers on the Eva (and you see the "ANGEL >>>" message on the screen), you have to run towards it (not walk) and at an exact time where there's a sound cue, perform a command (there's several, up+A, down+A, etc), the Eva then will perform a special attack on the angel. There's several special attacks that you can do per mission, and you later can see them on the theatre mode, so you sort of go unlocking them. The catch is that the kind of special attack you can do also depends on your sync ratio, which goes up by doing chip damage (so yeah you still want to do some chip damage before launching the enemy). And of course don't get hit because that makes your sync ratio to go down.
Hope that helps.

Before the mission starts always look at the control scheme because it will notify you which buttons you can actually press. By the way, in mission 11 don't EVER do anything that puts you in a struggle. Even if you can mash your way through one or two struggles, it will wear you down quickly. I personally spam the horizontal knife slash because it doesn't proc a struggle scenario.

As the other guy said the most important thing in one on one fights is breaking the angels AT Field because then they can't defend themselves well and gives a MASSIVE sync boost. The higher your synch the better your attacks. If you have a low synch and press A+B you will just nudge the angel rather than grapple them.

I played it on my ED64+ on my N64, it's pretty good, but the lack of any translated ROM had me scrambling online to look for guides on what the buttons even do
A lot of the fights seem to be scripted (namely the first one) or I just need to git gud, I legit cannot tell. There's apparently a grab and an AT field block and some other buttonmashy combos, it's a weird fighting game with some attempt at deviation from the formula.
Models and cutscenes are damned impressive, music cracks me up since it's literally the SM64 soundfont: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmSt4wUQeCE

Buy it if you're a collector or a mega otaku who knows moonrunes, otherwise I wouldn't really spend money on it since you won't know what the fuck you're doing like me, I'm glad I only got the rom for the Everdrive since if I bought the cart I'd have to either tear out the plastic regionlock thingies from my N64 or buy a JP model and even then I don't see myself playing this too much. It is definitely the best Eva game though that isn't saying much given there's nothing but dating and gacha games. Give it a shot.

As I said here: >>7122965, the first battle against Sachiel can have a different outcome. You can get the canon TV series outcome if you let Sachiel wreck your shit first, and then have Unit 01 go berserk, but you can also beat him without getting hit once and without going berserk.
The battle system in this game is actually very similar to the Ultraman SNES game, where you have to build up a meter to perform special attacks, in a way NGE is kind of a spiritual sequel to it (which fits since Eva itself is very inspired by Ultraman)

I don't consider it as good as Eva 64 because I'm not interested in its RPG mechanics, which IIRC, it was based on another series of games I forgot the name of.
