Yes, the Sega System name was made up by Tonka (which handled US release and initial distribution) because at that time there wasn't any Sega console on the market and as a toy company, they didn't knew better how to name it against the 'Nintendo'. But the real console name (in Japan and in Europe were it was distributed by Sega, then in USA when Tonka got kicked out) always was the Sega Master System.
