what genre captures the excitement of hunting monsters and adventuring the best? And why is it jrpgs?

Probably first person dungeon crawlers capture that the most.

I broke the clock on MH1 long long before I was done with it, I estimate 1300 to 1500 hours or so, almost every other entry has been 300-900 hours depending. I fucking love those games.

Are any of them good as singleplayer or splitscreen games? I tried FU and World but they seemed like barren and grindy ARPGs without the network play.

I find both 3ds ones the pinnacle of MH, you can play both online and I don't find them grindy, they both have a pretty solid single player set of missions, I don't remember having to grind, that said I played a lot of multiplayer so maybe that's part of it.
if you plan on emulating I belive only the psp games and the first monster hunter on the ps2(if on windows) can be played online/LAN, from those I'd choose either FU2 or 3rd on the psp, from what I remember FU has a lot of janky hitboxes, 3rd is fun but doesn't offer G rank, 1 on the ps2 is an unique expirience but every game after it is just better.
