Why the fuck do old people love pinball so much? I want to go to an arcade and play some actual games but arcades in the US are like 70% pinball.

Pinball Machines release chemical components into the air that make senior citizens happy. So its between that and the loud noises these machines produce. Same reason why little kids are drawn to pokemon games. If you wanna be safe next time you visit your arcade, just block your nostrils. Dont inhale!

Id go one further and complain that if half the floor space is wasted by pinball, most arcades in north america that actually have video games will have a lot of the remaining space dedicated to boomercore 80s games. There's just something truly beautiful about a well designed pin that no arcade game can compare to; the look, the feel, the craftsmanship and that real tactile feeling of working moving parts that aren't just pixels or images on a screen.

That's pretty damn strange (and retarded), since bars usually don't own the pinballs, they have it through an operator who usually changes the machine once in a while.

You have to admit it's bad design though to have to slap a machine. And they have TILT as a default feature because of the constant abuse pinball machines got otherwise. I have been to such conventions and it is common-place for machines to be slapped and nudged, and I have never heard any owners complain. I once heard an arcade operator complain about a shake-save at an arcade, but that's it. If it bothers them, they can just adjust the tilt bob to be more sensitive, and then people won't nudge.
>>7103261
Those aren't that hard to do. Just try to meet the ball at the moment the flipper reaches the height of the flip. It works because the flipper actually goes past the held-button point by a few degrees and then back down when you press and hold the button.

Stern still exists and still makes and services new games.
Konami is the same with Pachinko in Japan.
Arcade machines are basically antiques now and are very valuable, and owners aren't keen on letting strangers bust up their $10K+ machines. Commercial pinball machines generally cost $8K or less. More affordable, better profit margins, etc.

I feel like a lot of designers (Lawlor and Steve Richie specifically) let their successes get to their heads a little bit. Really, I feel like the only reason that Lawlor or Steve Richie had any success back then is because of the people they worked with; Lawlor leaned on Larry DeMar a whole lot when designing his most successful games while Steve Richie's samey layouts were brought to life by Williams's art and sound designers, which Stern obviously lacks. Oursler is criminally underrated; he worked incredibly well in teams (with Python Anghelo most notably) and consistently made games that are just plain fun to play. He'd probably fuck it up if he ever returned to the pinball scene for the same reasons, but he seems to be enjoying his retirement for the time being

Never had too much maintenance to do, it runs really smoothly. And it's actually enjoyable to service it, because of how easy the widebody pins are to work on: you can pull the playfield toward you, and there's a metal structure underside of the playfield so you can let it rest on the lockbar.

Would recommend, anon. It's not even overpriced because so many people shit on it since there are no bumpers.

What's the most difficult table for you guys? Not for reasons like lack of drain save but just difficult shot wise or layouts. For me it's probably the Dr Who table just because you have to land three skill shots in a sequential order just to light extra ball and trying to light the time expander locks can result in a centre drain not to mention the flippers being a fraction smaller so the centre drain is a bit larger than normal. Like the whole table just seems designed to make things bad for you if you are not on point.

FX's issue is it's video game pinball. It doesn't use real physics, all tables are much easier by having the flippers closer together, so it is much harder for a ball to fall out. Side pockets have a billion saves, so they are irrelevant on most tables. There's also awful shit like badly animated 3D models on the board, ball trails, score popping up etc. Some of those can be disabled, or avoided in classic mode. The williams tables are the only exception. I'd suggest those ones if you play FX3.

No but it is clearly way more prevalent in these hobbies that appeal to dorky ocd loners for obvious reasons i guess.

the shmup community for example is littered with trannys and pedos and openly so.

Thanks for the link, anon. Looks like both gameplay work together really well. It's a shame that it's a simplistic game and a simplistic pinball. I can only dream of a Shinobi hybrid.

Shmups generals are possibly the worst thing on /vr/. Usually full of edrama or talking about replay videos. It's either people who keep replaying the same game they already completed over and over for score, or "fans" that don't really play at all, just want to be part of their community and servers.

I can understand why some cutie cosplayer would be like this, but apart from that what advantage is there to being a fan of a game you don't even play?

>badly animated 3D models on the board
Can't imagine how full of shit you have to be to say that on /vr/ of all places. They're absolutely fine for what they are, table props.

I thought you were able to turn those off in classic mode. They censored some tables which is much more gay.

Still doesn't mean they're badly animated. It might even be uncanny if they looked like actual game/movie animations.

If they could be turned off, there'd be no issue.

I'm in one of the VPX facebook groups to get beta tables earlier and they are a bunch of shitheads. I don't even try to interact with these autists, just take their shit and go.

They are also super anal about keeping the page only about VPX in order to keep the page "clean". So like right now some new guy saw a neat table that happened to be a Future Pinball table and instead of just being like "oh hey dude, that's a Future Pinball table you can find it on their site" they just delete the posts.
