Anyone here play the Castle Shikigami series? The first game on steam is unfortunately fugly (they messed up the filters and the characters look like mud) but for what it's worth I think the game itself is pretty neat and interesting. I like games that have characters with very different movesets/playstyles, which the Shikigami games do for me. I also really like that it's so boss-heavy.

The game is really hard though. I usually have to die on stage 2 when those asshole soldiers start rushing the screen laying mines (unless I use a bomb). I tend to play as Kotaro (pic related), and sometimes the miko.

I understand what you're saying, and I appreciate the advice. I certainly don't mean to compare myself to directly to others, because if I ever achieve success it won't look exactly like anyone else's. My life, my story.

That said, my only "talent", the only thing I really have going for me, is that I've been told that I can write. But I haven't nurtured my writing ability the way I ought to have; I'm always starting projects and never finishing them, and I have the motivation-killing bad habit of editing as I write, so that even my first drafts never really get finished. Worst of all, I don't read. When I was a kid I loved to get lost in a good book, but nowadays I find it's rare that I even finish anything I borrow from library. "Good writers read", or so the adage goes, and I don't. Still, story and character ideas come to me from time to time, and I'll spend hours daydreaming about them.

The actual equivalent to scoring is timing, so when you want to autistically replay the same racer but are always getting first place, you turn to getting first place with a better time. Timing is the scoreboard equivalent in racing games, the fact that you don't know that, or that these games were never about the scores primarily, makes me think you're unfamiliar with the history of these games.
