Is it worth beating? I started playing it a while ago and just put it down. I was just past the Hippogriph fight.

I think it is. There's a lot of cool areas and little touches that are neat. The music in some areas is pretty great. I think it gets better after the first few areas, I wasn't impressed by them. It goes to absolute shit at the inverse castle though.

Nah, metroidvanias are shit, play the classicvanias instead

I don't think it sucks, but it's clear that most of the game is just padding at that point.

It's good for exactly ONE playthrough.
Then all the soulful enemy designs and music get buried under the never-ending straight corridors and boring level designs.

Yes, as above post said it’s worth at least one play through. Worst case just go grind for 5-10 minutes, then spam dagger on the boss.

Do people actually grind to do anything in SoTN? I found that just by exploring the levels the games already make you extremely over powered.

Yes it's good, ignore the classicucks.

I honestly hated it. I think only a handful of areas had distinct enemies, with the rest having the same copy pasted one. It felt like it tried to stretch 5% of the content of the first half across the entire second half. The bosses were the only redeemable thing.

>> No.7064986

only if youre interested in the story of Rondo Of Blood , if you already know the story then it kinda suck , its actually doesnt represent the greatness of the metroidvania , sotn look like shit comparison to aria of sorrow . aria of sorrow show what being metroidvania mean

>> No.7066483

>>7061885
I don't even remember if that's in the first or second half but if you're not enjoying then drop it either way. I'll say this though, most of the stuff to find is basically useless since the game is so easy and the OP combination of Shield Rod and Alucard gets handed to you. So even if you don't use that you can blaze through the game in no time ignoring large parts of the second castle.

>> No.7066507

Sure, but I'd recommend the classic games much more

>> No.7066550

Why? The Metroidvanias are exactly the same but actually have exploration

>> No.7066562

>>7066550
I prefer the newer Castlevanias, but it's not as cut and dry as you laid out.

In the old Castlevanias you have to approach each specific situation a certain way. SOTN does this sometimes, but it's not consistent all the way through and it's way toned down. In the later games this was completely non existent.

>> No.7066721

>>7066562
So you're saying SOTN is the best metroidvania?

Apples and Oranges. There's only like 4-5 times SOTN felt like classic castlevania. Like a save room in the underground having 3 spear knights 1 below 1 infront and 1 above all stabbing at you from different directions. So just to get out you had to dodge their spears just to get out. Also there were a few situations were they will put archers behind melee tanks, so you have to dodge attacks from both and the archer would sometime notch 2 arrows to throw you off. But in 99% of the cases it felt like the enemies were just randomly or arbitrarily placed with no thought at all. It gets particularly bad in the second castle, where it feels like they spread 10% of the content across 50% of the game.

Compare that to original Castlevania were every situation felt like it was basically a test of your dodging or positioning like pic related. I'm not saying one is better but they are very obviously distinctly different types of games.

>> No.7066779

>>7066721
Actually I kinda missed the caveat were you said 'Metroidvania'. It didn't click that probably meant SOTN, it's derivatives and Metroid. Yeah probably, but Metroid is suppose to be no slouch.

It is true. Aside from the Library, the outer wall, and the catacombs. The vast majority of the inverse castle is enemies you've already seen before with maybe 1-2 additional enemies sprinkled in. You can look it up this is basically the rule with minor exceptions. I wouldn't be surprised if only 10%-20% of the enemies (not including bosses) exclusively appear in the inverse castle which is 50% of the game.

He's asking because a lot of great games are slow starters or the gameplay can't really shine until you're into it a bit. This one is no exception.
