Okay so the width of the tv area on the inside is about 28”, and the 2530 is about 27” with the speakers folded inward. While it’ll fit, it will effect the sound of the speakers since they’d be directly facing the wood. I could detach them and place them elsewhere in the unit, but eeehhh... I've never heard of coping with victory before. Vintage set-ups are a lot of fun and take you back to being a kid again if you grew up in the beige times. My Performa 6300cd here is in mint working order, but I actually have the monitor hooked up to my windows gaming laptop so I can use it as an all-in-one media hub but I use it as my main PC (it takes FOUR adapters to actually get this to properly display an image from an HDMI source, fuck DB-15). If you are thinking about getting into retro-computing, now is the time before it gets too expensive. Most old systems are fairly bulletproof and it only takes one 20cent capacitor, loose cartridge slot, dirty toggle switch or dodgy laser pickup to stop them from working (always exceptions I know). Even if you can't fix it the first time, each attempt builds your knowledge and skills base.

To each their own, though it's meant for hosting multiplayer /vr/ sessions since the bigger XBR Pro models out there are too big and heavy for the wooden stand.

>>7075892
>Where'd you get those sexy PVMs?
The 2530 was part of a lot of 3 from a traveling roadshow that was selling their PVMs off locally. The 2030s I picked up from a series of trades and in-person purchases.

I spent an average of $300 on each tube in that picture, which is damn near impossible to do nowadays.

>What does the PVM on the right do that the one on the left doesn't? Just feels like one or the other is superfluous.

The bvm on the righ does 480p while the other doesn't. But it is overkill. The main reason i have two crts is to play ps2 games on two separate consoles connected via ilink. Gran turismo, time splitters, guncon games, can be played multiplayer without splitscreen. Each player gets their own screen. A neat trick

If you want a similar look without the wallet rape of a PVM-2X30 or driving yourself crazy trying to score a lucky barn find, consider tracking down an RGB-capable Profeel or XBR. A Sony KV-25XBR for example literally uses the same tube as a PVM-2530 and does everything that it does minus S-Video and Digital RGB support with a different RGB connector.

That was my initial plan but the Samsung TV has this weird issue with composite video. RGB through scart looks great but when I tried my composite only N64, all the colours looked washed out, misaligned and sometimes flicker. At first I thought it was just shitty cables but the signal looks fine through my daewoo or even my LG HDTV. Hopefully when I finally get around to RGB modding the console, this will be a none issue but until then, I'll keep it hooked up to the daewoo.

Not for /vr/, but if you're a CRT fan, they're great for early HD content such as PS3 and 360 games.

They tend to be extremely heavy and bulky though, so think carefully about how badly you want one.

For console specific youtube was great, unfortunately a lot of the older stuff seems to have disappeared although there are still a few good channels out there / voltare is a favorite. Mmmonkey and Assebler games are a good reference for ideas, schematics and troubleshooting, but a.g has been shutdown for a while . Luckily someone has scrapped the website and archived most of it.
When I was learning I'd go out on hard rubbish collection night and gather up old cd players / dvd/ tv's ect so I could take out the circuit boards and practice soldering and component removal to build up skill. Just get a cheap soldering iron, braid, flux starters and a pair of side cutters and practice. A cheap multi-meter will suffice for starters, just learn how to read
dc current and measure continuity.Over time it will become easier, just keep at it and work towards the harder stuff, start small to begin with.

I'm here in SoCal, you'd be surprised. I've passed up on some good finds just because I'm not a hoarder and already own 2 top tier sets(20L5 and FW900) and would rather leave them for someone else. The real trick for finding good deals is digging through obscure auction sites and bidding on liquidations/pallets. If you're looking on ebay/fb market/craigslist you're only gonna find resellers and not digging deep enough.
Normal people don't magically have these in their closets letting them go for free at yard sales/craigslist so don't look there.
You need to find a business that's getting rid of them.

Here's one I just blindly found in TN after 5 sec of searching.
