About to play this for the first time, any tips or tricks?

>> No.705454

If you make it a point to collect all of the red jewels for the jeweller, be careful; something happens after you give him the last jewel that you can't turn back from, so be sure you're ready.

Just play it and have fun.

Haven't heard about this one in ages. I think you're in for a good time.

Don't bother with collecting red jewels if you don't want to use a guide; they're really fucking obtuse.
One of the first jewels is in a jar that a fisherman catches, but it's entirely random and may require entering and exiting an area multiple times to make it trigger.
The vast majority of jewels only have one chance to be found as this game has multiple points-of-no-return.

That being said, DO kill every single enemy in every room at least once as that is how you gain "levels."
Also use your herbs sparingly as you can never buy more; only find them in treasure chests.

this, the last boss is a pain in the ass without herbs so save 2 or 3

Don't bother with the red jewels on the first playthrough. Use a guide for them on a second playthrough later.

[broken record mode]Also, consider playing Soul Blazer first.[/brm]

It's pretty meh-tier in comparison to Illusion of Gaia though.

I love this game, it's where I met my waifu.

That is a good reason to play it first. It only gets better from Soul Blazer -> Illusion of Gaia -> Terranigma.

Did you know the original manual that comes with the game contains a walkthrough too? including the locations of all the red jewels.

I actually just started playing this as well. A couple of tips (no real spoilers):

1. If you find it boring at the beginning like I did, power through and play for an hour or two. After that it should pick up and get really exciting.

2. Read the manual if you get stuck; it gives you some useful information that isn't made clear within the game (and I'm not even talking about the included strategy guide at the back of the manual).

3. There are a couple points where it will seem like you're stuck, but as far as I can tell all you can do is wait and the game will progress.

You must betray a slave and tell his master where is he hiding to get one of the 50 gems. If you don't, that gem is lost forever.

I think there's a spoiler-free red gem list somewhere, use that.

I really liked this when I first started playing, but by the time I got to some pyramid place, I realized it was extremely repetitive. Any thoughts?

I loved this game as a kid, but when I replayed it recently, I found that it just wasn't nearly as fun as i remembered and the translation was actually kind of shitty. Also ignore the red jewels, they're stupid and you would never get all of them without a guide or the walkthrough the came with the game.
