It's funny how you always see the cartoons of "high class" brittish people squinting their eyes and puckering their lips out like morons, but you never expect to actually see them do it.

He's from Texas, which is both kinda not America and Extra America. I think he is from either Abilene or Lubbock or some other mid-sized Texas city. A large part of his personality seems to be a rejection of that fact.

Why do people here know so much about this guy?

Hes the foremost expert on retro gaming in the West and has a very popular podcast (#1 retro gaming podcast in fact, though that is admittedly a niche category)

I used to read his stuff way, way back (90s or early 2000s for the most part, I think). He went by Toastyfrog. He was in the pantheon of internet video nerds along with people like Thor Antrim, Sharkey, the Gaming Intelligence Agency, etc. A lot of content back then was done on people's personal websites and early blogs and shit like that, so it had a lot of personal stuff intertwined with the gaming stuff. Thor was homeless and talked about that a lot. Sharkey either made up a lot of shit or had a wacky sexual history. Etc.

Really? Care to explain the episodes he has done about games that have no Wikipedia article, or one that is just a stub?

Hes going through the library of the respective system game by game chronologically in his Works series, not every game even has a Wikipedia article. His research is his own and he will even mention how Wikipedia makes claims about a particular game that he couldn't actually confirm with a source.

You guys realize that Jeremy Parish is a parody right? He's a character in the style of AVGN.

Don't the glasses and dress sense give it away, the black and white pictures? The fact that he's acting like an artsy fartsy academic... except about videogames? The dude is a character.

>> No.7043810

>>7043806
What's his real persona, then?
The Nerd is the nerd, and then James is James.
Who's the real person behind this character Jeremy Parish? Is his claim to being married also a facade? Some anons said they spotted him with a boyfriend in the wild.

>> No.7043821

>>7043810
That was one guy memeing in a thread last night, he's married to a woman who he worked with at 1Up.

In this 1Up video of Jeremy singing about Mario Galaxy you briefly can see her in the background:

As far as I know he isn't a character, if so he is a committed actor because I've been reading his stuff and listening to him since the original Retronauts podcast in the mid 2000s and hes always been the same guy.

the halo devs did the marathon games and IIRC you get the shield in them

>> No.7043971

>>7043959
The shield in the Marathon games is just a regular health meter and nothing like the shield in Mega Man Legends or Halo.

>> No.7043973

>>7043971
It's more like the shield in Halo. Halo has nothing to do with MML. It has everything to do with the Marathon games.

>> No.7043989

Gamers idolise him because they think he's an expert. He's honestly no more informed than the average idiot who reads wikipedia, but because gamers are mostly rubes who can't even be bothered doing that, they think he's some kind of mystical god with all his magical knowlege.

>> No.7043996

>>7043973
No it's not. Marathon doesn't have any health meter so the shield meter literally acts like a health meter. When it runs out you die and it doesn't regenerate like the shield in MML or Halo. Halo obviously borrows a lot from Marathon since it's by the same company but the shield in Halo has a lot more in common with the shield in MML.

>> No.7044008

>>7043996
It's a stretch to say MML influenced ANYTHING in Halo, though. I remember the same mechanics being used in the Descent games as well as other FPS from the 90s.
Also, if Parish is so god damn good as a "content creator," then maybe clowns on /vr/ shouldn't be the ones who are able to poke holes in absolutely everything he says.

>> No.7044078

Threadly reminder that Joe simped for Erin and then unfollowed her when she jumped on the Matei dick.
Threadly reminder that Joe and Mike have a feud going on and Joe still haven't replied to Matei after Mike plain out called him out as a cheater, in one of the most incredible JMM videos ever where James has absolutely no idea who Mike is talking about.
Threadly reminder that JonTron and Arin Hanson outright made fun of Mike's elementary school-tier humor and autistic personality in the sonic 06 series, and when Jon left game grumps, he guested on Cinemassacre, twice or more. Mike likely had no idea about it at the time, but he probably knows by now.
Threadly reminder that when Ryan fires Mike, it's over for him and Erin.

>> No.7044086

Descent had a shield bar, but it didn't auto-regenerate like the MML and Halo shields. Now I'm curious, which '90s FPS had regenerating shield?
