I'm still sort of iffy on this. They got the name from Carbon Copy because they were just normal humans cloned off The Master's (and I assume some other remaining archived human DNA.) The name is a technicality since they just weren't originally created naturally but that obviously fell away pretty quick since it's what drove the Master to reject Elysium and live among them. To me the robot part integration lent more to the fact that their entire society is built from the ruins of the absolute pinnacle of another's scientific achievement so even the scraps they dig up are light years beyond what we have so it doesn't even occur to them that cyborg implants would be a big deal, which is also why Megaman/Rock doesn't raise any sort of suspicion (although 2 confirmed his armor is actually removable.) I do wonder if they were planning something like Refractor creation tech being locked away behind something encrypted with the Master's genetic code, leading to a crisis where Rock has to debate using it to help the current society while technically breaking with his final wishes/directive and potentially letting whatever remaining rogue elements of Elysium get their hands on it.

Control layout was ridiculous with no way to customize. You had two settings "good" and "bad," and both sucked.Personally, I found it a massive hassle to even attempt a controller, but keyboard and mouse made me wish that I could.

The aesthetics for the overall world were nice, but the main character's color scheme is eye burning. If nothing else, giving people the option to change her hair and armor color would have been nice, or even just offering a couple different options. The original is just bad.

Battles were shit. The grappling add-on was a hassle when using keyboard/mouse because you kept swinging wildly until you basically just stopped, aimed yourself, then started swinging again. Easter eggs were pretty meh. Swimming was obnoxious.

You're right about Rock, Mana, Sera, etc being androids with special functions, but in terms of appearance they don't seem to be any different from carbons. Characters like Data and the Servbots are closer to A.I. pets or whatever.

But everyone else is a synthetic human. In the Legends world people walk around with clearly cybernetic body parts and augmentations, and parts shops are in every town. It's clear that they're not regular humans.

The sheer quantity of it that must exist probably is around there, though. But since only hardcore perverts take the risk in the first place, I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of what they watch has an adult's hand in creating it (i.e. features abuse).

i've never played Legends nor do i know very much about it save for the few screenshots ive seen over the years. are there any rpg elements to it? is there any sort of griding and finding items? or is it mainly an action game like the 2d games.

It's an action-rpg. There's shops and NPCs, you can upgrade your equipment and customize your weapons. You explore dungeons and the overworld and items are hidden everywhere. There's no grinding at all, aside from a couple very expensive endgame items that aren't necessary to beat the game.

The N64 also has worse controls. I tried both versions around the same time a couple years ago. I could adjust to PS controls, but not the N64 ones. I grew up playing N64 games so if anything I should be biased towards that version not against it, but the already controversial controls are a much bigger hassle on N64.
