Alright, let's say I wanted to use Soft 15khz to play an emulator on my PVM through 4BNC. My video card only has DVI and HDMI out... what cord / converter would I get?

Or should I avoid lag and get a Soft 15khz friendly video card and make a new computer around that?

>> No.694208

Also, my PS2 SCART works fine with my SCART to 4BNC to my PVM pvm 14m4u...

My DC SCART won't play nice. Any ideas on what I can try?

>> No.694235

I'd go for the second option also you might need to use an LM1881 for the DC

>> No.694239

It sounds like your GPU only has digital output. I think you would need both a DVI-VGA adapter and a VGA-BNC cable. I'm not totally sure though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 15KHz means a lower resolution than standard TVs, right? I find it odd because you bought a PVM with a super high resolution.

What does not playing nice look like?

I had issues with the official Wii SCART cable not having the earth pins for the video signals connected to anything - worked fine after a bit of easy soldering.

mkay - my SCART to 4BNC has the LM1881... I found a forum thread saying that with the dreamcast it works only WITHOUT the LM1881...

I mean, it's a Jamma cab but similar principle? Or not?

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=5986.0

I assume the PS2 only works with it... I guess I can get an SCART to 4BNC without the LM1881 for my dreamcast and keep using the one with LM1881 for the PS2.

>> No.697560

Why are you guys using an LM1881? Some cursory Googling suggests it's a sync separator - surely your PVM accepts composite sync? And "4BNC" would imply RGB + composite sync?

I'm very confused, all consoles designed for SCART land will output RGB with composite sync, and my PVM-1442QM takes this fine...

Yeah my bad I totally mixed it up. You need one without the LM1881 if you have an LM1881. If you want to check before you shell out the cash you can take it off your old one first and see if it plays nice.

OP here with another PVM question.

A guy who was moving gave me a PVM 20m4u for free, saying it had only about 60 hours of use.

It was free because it won't turn on. The guy said it had just recently quit working. When you try to turn it on, there is a repeating clicking sound. He and I both suspect it is just the power supply. Do you think I could find the same power supply and replace it?

The fundamental overriding goal must be the application of new technology to allow computers to send a signal as accurate as the machine it's emulating though with superior quality. Here are the building blocks of powerful knowledge.

nVidia/ATI 15 KHz output:
>Soft-15KHz
http://files.arianchen.de/?x=soft15khz
Allows video card to output TV / arcade monitor resolutions.
"PLEASE NOTE: Soft-15KHz is a Windows application and will only function once Windows has loaded. Any resolutions that a computer outputs before Soft-15KHz kicks in may be harmful to standard arcade monitors."
>PowerStrip
http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm
Detailed and precise control of all monitor settings. IMPORTANT: now compatible with Calamity's SwitchRes 0.014

ATI 15 KHz output:
>CRT_EmuDriver
http://mame.3feetunder.com/windows-ati-crt-emudriver/
"When using CRT_EmuDriver, your arcade monitor must be connected to the primary port on the video card.
I don't know if this is always the case, but if your card has two ports, the primary port is usually (but not always) the "bottom" (closest to the motherboard) port.
On newer video cards, the primary port is usually a DVI port. This means that to connect to an arcade monitor, you'll have to use a DVI-to-VGA adapter dongle."

MAME plus MESS with automatic resolution and frequency shifting on a per-game basis:

The systems emulated accurately by MESS as part of GroovyUME 0.148u2 at the moment are as follows:

Alice32 (Computer)
Apple IIGS (Computer)
Aquarius (Computer)
Arcadia 2001 (Console)
Atari 400/800 Series (Computer)
Atari 2600 (Console)
Atari 5200 (Console)
Atari 7800 (Console)

Game Boy (Handheld)
Game Gear (Handheld)
Genesis (Console)

MC-10 (Computer)
MO Series (Computer)
MSX Series (Computer)
Neo Geo AES (Console)
Neo Geo CD (Console)

Sega Computer 3000 (SC-3000) (Computer)
Sega Game 1000 (SG-1000) (Console)
Sega Super Control Station (SF-7000) (Computer)
Studio II (Console)
SuperGrafx (Console)

TO Series (Computer)
TurboGrafx 16 (Console)
TurboGrafx CD (Console)
Vectrex (Handheld)
WonderSwan (Handheld)
X1 (Computer)
X68000 (Computer)
ZX Spectrum (Computer)

One could conceivably arrange configurations for each core in RetroArch and dutifully set one's output on BSNES to 60.09476 as well as in PowerStrip or CRT_EmuDriver. Vsync would be disabled and you would output a 256x240 (224 with black borders masked by overscan?)

We get now into the problem of Line Doubling. Windows can't do this with SwitchRes/GroovyUME, but Linux and the liveUSB/CD can. This would be a 512x240(224) output to account for the SNES's high resolution mode. In normal games, GroovyUME knows to double the lines.

Despite MESS not having full compatibility with the SNES, their emulation philosophy (accurate to every chip) is the same as that of BSNES. Here it is running Donkey Kong Country completely native on a European SCART TV with a VGA to SCART cable and GroovyUME.

Information is scattered widely on these fora. Here are monitor settings for SwitchRes that will be used by most of /vr/

pal PAL TV - 50 Hz/625 (undesirable)
ntsc NTSC TV - 60 Hz/525 (undesirable)

arcade_15 Arcade 15.7 kHz - standard resolution (some TVs)

Update: the authors of RetroArch are 100% opposed, vehemently, to ever properly implementing anything to do with outputting true native signals. See

for more information. The level of spitefulness is great. It looks like other emulators will have to be used for native gameplay.

Sometimes Universities and Hospitals auction them off, so you might have some luck there.

Rarely, unless the person selling it doesn't know what they have. I paid $50(and $40 shipping) for my 20M2MDU, and that's on the slightly lower end for that model.
