Makes sense.
If you were 8 in 2001 and got a Gamecube for christmas on release year, you're now 27.
And people in their mid 20's to mid 30's are the ones actually paying absurd prices for used video games and hardware.

This is the real answer. Nintendont is 99% compatible, runs perfectly, offers enhanced video options, you don't even need memory cards, and plugging in a GC controller is trivial given it's got 4 fucking ports.

There's several reasons for this phenomenon.

1. Nintendo games retain their value pretty much forever and are always in demand, even decades later.

2. Market share. The Gamecube sold slightly less than the Xbox, SIGNIFICANTLY less than the PS2, and quite a bit less than its predecessor, the N64. Point is, it wasn't a very successful system. With less Gamecube owners there were also less people buying Gamecube games, so there's just not as many games in the pool that could be in the market.

3. Youtuber-fueled retro collecting mania. There's shitloads of popular collector channels hyping the hoarding of old games, and with it, raising prices across the board.

4. Lack of alternative ways to play and people who grew up with Gamecubes being old enough to start feeling nostalgic about their childhoods. The vast majority of Gamecube games have never been ported or remastered, and there's a lot of nostalgia among people in their 20s and 30s for them, who now have disposable income to spend on non-essential things. The only options for them are emulation and original hardware, and since a lot of them are too stupid to emulate, they're just gonna re-buy the shit they had as kids.

5. Not many people are selling. This goes back to 3 & 4, but people who are still sitting on their Gamecube collections are largely doing so with purpose. It's their collection, dammit. Since there's not a lot of games actually on the market, prices are staying relatively high.

eh... I don't know if you mean actual boomers you're calling 4chan boomers old farts - 32-45 year olds are by far the most technologically literate generation because we grew up when you had to actually know and understand something about computers to use them. The fuck? Playstation has always been more popular than Xbox solely because of titles instead of history and this was even before 2001. Crash, Spyro, Syphon Filter, Ridge Racer, Gran Turismo, Ace Combat series went to PS1 for home consoles, Na-Na-Onsha games, the first ever GTA games were ported to the PlayStation first, etc etc.

Xbox has a history of 18 years now vs the PlayStation's 25 and the retro series they have that still persisted past their original generation are Halo and.... Gears of War and.... Forza... and.... uhhh....
