What are some /vr/ visual novels like these two? I love mystery ones so these are my favorites.

There are English patches for the PC and PSP releases of R11 and there is an official remake of KNY called "Banshee's Last Cry" (for iOS only sadly)

Thank you for the recommendations senpai. Are there differences between the two versions?

Watched two playthroughs of Otogirisou recently which covered different story branches.
It's tragic the only way I can experience this game in English is through shitty YouTube narration playthroughs.

The PSP version is actually the recommended one because it has an actual ending, while the PC version just cuts off with no closure.

You'll have to deal with a visual downgrade though.

the psp version doesnt have a closure though?? the ending is the same for both version unless you are talking about the extra tips. also did you play ever17? the pacing isnt as good but the payoff for the ending is damn amazing and its definitely worth a playthrough.
kara no shoujo is pretty good murder mystery. some really fucked up shit but i loved it.

Hell yeah. I only know about the ending where
the mansion gets burned down and they escape though. What happens in the other one?

There are, and they are very iconic and sick too. See pic related.

Mansion burns down in both of them
One has the girl's twin sister try to kill her to be with their "brother"
The other one is more supernatural, focuses more on the history of the house/curse and how it affected the mother.

>> No.7040198

Very few retro visual novels have been translated, much less sound novels like Kamaitachi no Yoru. There are lots of good ones on the PS1, but Japan-only.

I think some of the Tantei Jinguuji Saburo detective VNs were localized as Jake Hunter? Not sure though

Kara no Shoujo rules, great gore and great freshly bombed Japan setting. Not a period that's touched on enough in the genre.

the bad ends were really great because they were genuinely pretty scary and creepy. it felt pretty realistic compared to something like higurashi/umineko. i always found the deaths in those games hilarious because of all the exaggeration but never felt that way about kara no shoujo.

Very recommended if you like Evangelion and haven't spoiled yourself the plot.
High quality values with art and voice acting (same as TV series). Not too complex and only has 3 endings but it's worth it. Play Mana's game, dammnit!

>> No.7042248

>>7042245
the art is really good and it's well produced
you can tell the team in charge of the show actually worked on the thing, but there's nothing going on with the story
really absolutely nothing
even as an eva fan it seemed like a waste of time, it comes off as a scrapped filler episode

what's the name of that game where fans disavowed the company and send them back their cds broken in half?

was it an elf game? or key? i can't remember

>> No.7043910

it was an elf game, kakyusei 2. pretty much bankrupt the company because of an inside work by an employee to ruin it or they say lol.
key wouldnt write a cuck story. they focus more on melodrama for all their games for better or worse.

I believe the right is called a "Sound novel". Unfortunately, most visual/sound novels aren't translated and there's little interest. They're text heavy and are story driven.

Also from what I infer it's the girl's boyfriend's who's getting cucked.
Still, interesting story. What does "tama" mean? Pure?

probably because the other games in the dokyusei series didnt have anything like kakyusei heroine. people just wanted some more comfy dokyusei continuation but were let down.
>>7044368
not really. the boyfriend who is a doctor dumps the girl iirc. then the girl comes to you for some depressing cry sex with you while telling you how much she loved her doctor boyfriend. it pretty much makes the mc or the reader feel like total shit and i think thats why nips were mad.
i have no idea what the tama in her name means because its in hiragana. it can mean tama like the jewel but its not in kanji so i dont know.
