I had Legendary super warriors as a kid, took me ages to understand how to play and beat it. It's a cute game but the card game is a bit lame. 99% of it comes down to guessing whenever the CPU is gonna use its big damage move and having the dodge card in hand. Not a big fan of timed inputs on the basic attacks as well

the pro trick was to get a darbula 1hit-kill card in your deck. It has a 20% or like of success.

You like Shin better than 2 or 3? I get that it has a larger roster, but the gameplay is really bad... I wish I could enjoy it, but I can't, and I'm a huge fan of butoden 2 and 3. Shin is barely better than UB22 on PS1, but still bad. At least the VS portraits are very badass, I'll say that.
I like your other 2 choices though.

Budokai 1 still has god tier music and cutscenes though. It's what got me into DBZ to begin with.

definitely the Budokai Tenkaichi games, Dragon Ball just doesn't work as a 2D fighter(or at least not as a complicated kind, it'd probably work fine as a Smash Bros style game), the enormous rosters in those games(especially 3) is another point in their favor

It sure works fine in super butoden 2 and 3, and FighterZ is also 2D.
I personally think Butoden is the series that did 2D DBZ the best, because of the dash function, the switching between air and ground, and of course the split screen (a fundamental element in BT's vs play). In fact BT could be considered a 3D adaptation of the Butoden gameplay, sort of.
And I personally prefer 2D fighters to 3D ones, have a lot more fun playing Butoden, although I do enjoy BT3 a lot too.
Maybe give Butoden 2 an honest try someday. Remember you can unlock a turbo mode.
