How can a game be so fucking clunky to play and still be a total masterpiece?

As stiff as the controls are, it still works fine just because of how fast Mega Man moves. It's easy to correct course if necessary. Had a pretty good lockon too for a game that came out before OoT. Only big problem is that circle strafing kills everything, but the later dungeons even try to account for this by making the hallways so narrow you can't circle strafe half the time

Because it was fun.

By your own standards then it's not a masterpiece. You just enjoy playing it anyway, which is 100% valid

Why are you telling me what my own standards are?

>> No.7020342

A game with clunky controls cannot be a masterpiece.

The Mega Man series is known for its nonlinear level progression, great music, tight controls, acquiring weapons from bosses, good boss fights and individual levels based a on theme. Legends has literally none of these things and without Mega Man and Roll being present you would have no idea this was supposed to be a Mega Man game. The dungeons in particular are just so lifeless its unreal they decided to include them as they are in the final product.

So now you're saying that my standards are the same as that random anon's? What is your deal?

It isn't a bad game. It's just not a good adaptation of Mega Man in 3D at all.

That's fine, I don't think the precision room to room navigation that often relies on near pixel perfect actions would be a good fit for 3D so I think Legends did a better job by giving us something we didn't realize we wanted.

I don't think anyone ever wanted those generic dungeons.

I never had a problem with the visual design of the dungeons. It makes sense in the context of the world for them to look the way they do. They're not romps through cartoon land like in the classic games because that's not what they were trying to do.

>> No.7020546

>>7020541
Except the rest of the game is "cartoon land" and now the generic as hell dungeons feel like filler content.

I don't really know how you could say that considering the setting is very grounded in reality. "Cartoon land" doesn't just mean "has an anime aesthetic". Would you describe Cowboy Bebop as "cartoony"?

I like how you posted this as if this doesn't clearly show a realistic mall with realistic humans doing realistic things like shopping.
Are... are you really saying that it's not grounded in reality because it has colors and uses anime aesthetics...? Seriously...?

Yes, that image is the definition of realism in games. I can't believe I'm not looking at a photograph it's so real.

It's called being better than the sum of your parts. For example, every single GTA game since the first one have had some amount of jank. The games all manage to be fun in spite of it
